maybe for that bond?i can see how it may be much simpler to speak in a native tounge. however i understand the problems this can cause and i really do sympathize with people, but i support for english to be used in the workplace unless part of your job involves speaking another language. i feel uncomfortable, i have NO idea what your talking about.

I work with Poles who often revert to Polish, and my closest friends are Russians who tend to do the same. I know snippets of each language, and it seems that since these people grew up speaking those languages, it's first nature to speak them. Since I don't speak either language well enough to carry on a complex conversation with them, they always use English...but when speaking to others of their own nationality, they tend to slip into their native tongue without even thinking about it.

I honestly think it has to do with how people think when using language. It's clear (at least among the Russians I know) that they're thinking in Russian, or relying of a particularly "Russian" way of conceptualizing what they say and so when they speak, it all blurts out in Russian, especially if the person they are speaking to "looks" Russian. Since I speak some Russian (and even less Polish) I have often swtiched (mid sentence) from one language to the other, and the funny thing about that is the peope I've spoken to never noticed, even if they answered in English, specifically, or Russian. So I think, ultimately, it's just the way the human brain works, and if they're not really being rude about it, there's nothing to worry about.

Also, I've noticed that when people ARE speaking their native languages, at least with Russian and Polish, they're usually talking about inconsequential things that I'm really not that interested in...such as "where so-and-so put the broom; it's not in the closet where is should be and they have no idea where to look for it" or something like that.

Open your courtains, dude. No doubt if you think of being out you would be proud to speak english, and most certainly wouldnot ask you to speak in their language, so you will see comparisons are umproper, and none who speak another language are not prejudicial nor racist towards you.
Now it does not mean I am helping you or you are not racist and prejudicial to locals who like to chat around in different versions of our common language: quechua.
You are european, no doubt, you came with no culture and no language and now others have to forget their families and friends just to please somebody who understands but claims she is righteous and moral? I dont think so.
Another thing, I am nor paying attention, and your claim on not trying to dis means clearly just watching at you: I believe me superior, I think it, need not emphasize it, somebody will just excuse himself saying this to me as to infart not, marrooned natives migrants.

Comfort. People enjoy being with those who they consider like them or with whom they feel have things in common. Be the change. Peace
