Annie - Shorts and a t-shirt. A 19 year old in a shirt and tie looks like he has something to hide. Like, he just got acquitted.

Well you see, you can tell who the 'Elders' are... they are the ones without training wheels... ooops....sorry... lol!

God loves all people but he does not bless those who distort His word and who preach their own works (publications) and not His work.

1) 100 degree weather happens... the only way around it would be to ask to be called to be a missionary in Alaska or Norway... doesn't always happen, though. They may indeed have a car, AC and all... but they'll have more opportunity to talk to people if they're on bikes, and talking to people is what it's all about when you're on a mission!!

2) "Clothes make the man"... Would you take a 19-yr-old more seriously if he was wearing a suit-&-tie or if he was wearing shorts and a t-shirt?

Hey, here's a little explanation.

I served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and it was my privilege to do so. Full-time missionaries for our church work all the time, about 10 hours a day, in many different weather conditions. In the area where I was, we did have cars for some missionaries because of the distance between the places where they were serving and mission headquarters. In other areas, the missionaries use bikes or walk and take the bus. Missionaries live a pretty simple lifestyle in general because they're so focused on the work they are doing. When I was a missionary in Canada, the mosquitoes would bite us like crazy and we were out there in the heat and sun during the summer and the cold during the winter. We kept going because we knew it was important. "The worth of souls is great in the sight of God," as a scripture says. They're there to help our brothers and sisters progress and come to Jesus Christ. I guess getting a little warm doesn't matter when you compare it to great value of our brothers and sisters.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that God doesn't just love Mormons, as you stated in your question. He loves everyone. Enough to send missionaries out to teach them about His Son Jesus Christ.

As far as the dress goes, I agree with the previous answerer that the missionaries dress in a manner appropriate to the work that they are doing. They are personal representatives of Jesus Christ, so their office deserves respect. Their dress makes it possible for them to talk to anyone, regardless of social standing, and be dressed properly to go into any situation.

Next time you see missionaries and feel bad for them, offer them a glass of water, and take the time to hear what they have to say.

first of all, push aside Mr. Peepers above once you're interested in an honest answer. in case you seem at his/her profile, he/she looks to feed off spreading hate and misconceptions approximately Mormons. Fotomama gave an exceedingly solid answer, to which i might choose to function some greater suggestions. Sister missionaries are uncomplicated in the church, there basically are not as many as Elders. that's a commandment for all eligible youthful men in our faith to serve a challenge. that's a call for youthful women and older couples. maximum sister missionaries elect to stroll, or get a vehicle, rather of driving motorcycles. For the extremely straightforward reason that driving a bike in a protracted skirt isn't straightforward. basically via fact the Elders have grooming and dressing standards on an identical time as on their challenge, so do the ladies. The Sister missionaries could positioned on outfits that are calf length, which could be a hardship to hawk a bike in. yet some do it. there is likewise the certainty that distinctive aspects of the worldwide are divided into Missions. those are set geographical aspects that are presided over via a challenge President. on an identical time as the church has standards all Missions could meet, there are issues left to the discretion of the challenge President. So some regulations would be distinctive from challenge to challenge. this might influence despite if or no longer the missionaries are on motorcycles, feet, or in autos. and ultimately, a brilliant form of Sister missionaries serve at Temple concentrated visitor centers, which classes the numbers out proselyting. you will additionally locate many Sisters serving at Institutes on college campuses.

They are missionaries. Dressing like they do is a sign of respect and obedience to God and to the calling they have. Would you want to talk to someone who was dressed in a pair of cut-off shorts, ripped tee shirt and a ratty old hat?? Most missions now do have cars, but some are so little, or poor that they can't afford or don't need one.

As far as the other answers, please do not bash my religion for your own pleasure. I'm not bashing yours!! If you don't want to listen to the missionaries, then what does it matter?

If they ride in Air conditioned car, you still would complain about how they waste the money and not helping the poor.

Those great missionaries use their own money to preach the gospel, whether you agree or not, they are happy and feel good about them selves.

It is part of the false church's attempt to "appear" holy to the ignorant. And in some areas they do drive cars.
