Chocolate contains a chemical called Theobromine. If a dog eats a dangerous amount of chocoate, it would basically be like taking caffeine through an IV. It accelerates the heart rate and too much of it will overstress it and cause it to stop beating.

I believe the general rule of thumb is that 1 oz of chocolate per 1 pound of the dog's weight is supposedly dangerous. I have heard of some dogs dying from suprisingly small amounts and I have also heard accounts of some dogs raiding an Easter basket and they were fine.

I would say it depends on the dog but the bottom line is don't ever take the chance and if it ever happens to you and there's any doubt don't hesitate to call a veterinarian.

Depends on how big the dog is and if they got her to vomit it all up.
A vet told me that an ounce of chocolate per pound of dog is dangerous. (sorry, I don't do metric) If the dog is smaller than 8 pounds and didn't barf it up, there may be some trouble. Good new is that chocolate usually causes dogs to vomit.
I have heard of dogs eating a lot more than that and being fine, so try not to worry.

My dogs tend to sniff out chocolate and go to ANY LENGTHS to find a way to get to it no matter where it is located. I think the dog will be fine. I have a pug who wont eat his own food but will do anything to get chocolate and he has eaten a decent amount in his time (lil bugger!) and since he is such a small animal and had a relatively large amount of it and still fine, I'm sure your dog will also be okay. Just make sure it doesnt happen again!

depends on how big the dog is, but dark chocolate is really bad for dogs. my jack russell ate two pieces of halloween chocolate and had seizures, but she is ok now.. white chocolate is the least harmful, followed by milk, dark and baking. but no chocolte is really good for a dog. my vet said the chemical in 1oz of milk chocolate to a dog is like drinking 60 cups of caffinated coffee for a human.

Chocolate causes nerve damage in dogs. It may kill him, and if he survives he will be a bit on the stupid side. I have seen a dog that went through a box of chocolates and survived. All of her training went out the window and she runs into walls pretty frequently.

The dog might b ok if u go to a vet and get it to vomit. Dogs as well as other animals should NOT have chocolate. If u do get it to a vet and get it to vomit, it should b fine.

I heard chocolate can kill animals in excess. I sure hope they got the dog to the vet.

My sisters dog once ate one of those huge Hershey kisses. She was OK. If you dog is allergic they will have symptoms usually right away. My sisters dog didn't even get diarrhea. How long ago did this happen?

My friends bichon ate a 1/4 pound of dark chocolate, they took her to the vet, he gave her something so that she would vomit it up, and she's fine now, still just as annoying and hyper as ever.
