It maybe a specially treated metal that is safe for microwaves. I know certain "receipies" for titanium are microwavable safe. I would check with the manufacturer of your microwave to find out what they reason for a metal rack is.

Wow, thats odd. You know what you should do? You should call the manufacterer of the microwave and ask them the implications of that rack. Seriously. I would. I work for a computer company, people call me with concerns all day.

Grab the model number, possibly the serial number, and call them up. Ask them if theyve had any problems with microwaves overheating, and what risk you are at (if any) with the metal rack.

I mean, it should be okay, they obviosuyl went through testing before they put it on the consumer market, but you never know. products of all kinds, tires, even baby carseats get factory recalled all the time for scary reasons. Call them!

and in the mean time, dont put pop tart wrappers in the microwave! they flame up really well.

your not suppose to put things like foil in the microwave. it makes sparks. the metal rack is fine. it won't cause any problems.
