The vet has put her on antibiotics and seroids. She still has bumps all over her. I have heard it could be heat rash. Has anyone had any similar problem with their dog?

She had the bumps before the antibiotics and steroids so it is not a reaction to those. The vet said she may be allergic to something but the steroids and bennadryl should have taken care of it. There is no hair loss so I do not think it is a mite, but if the mites are in the beginning stages then it could be mites. I think I will take her to the vet.

We have her on Science Diet Puppy chow. I will try the food you suggested (Chetco). Good info to know! I honestly do think it is an allergic reaction to something.

She, Ellee, is on Advantage for Fleas and ticks. Could it still be that she is allergic to them? I have not seen any and they are not in the house. Maybe it is a mixture of stress/anxiety and the humid heat here in San Diego. All of your answers are helping me so much!!! Thank you all!!!

IT'S HOT SPOTS! Go to the store (Walmart has it in my area) and buy SULFADENE...it in a bottle, amber colored liquid. My dog (blue heeler) gets them too. Some of the other answers were right, flea allergies can get it started, but so can stress, eating something different, new experieinces. It is part somatic (in the dogs head) and turns physical. Does he keep messing with it? I saw that it was driving my dog super crazy, and my vet put her on antibiotics (because some of them seemed infected) and steriods (prednizone, I think) to give her some relief, and told me to get the Sulfadene on her. It's a sulpha based medicine, smells and tastes nasty so she left them alone, and helped to heal it up quick. She looked better in two weeks! Now I try to be really careful and keep her properly treated for fleas, keep her in the bedroom in stressful situations (fireworks, dinner parties, etc) and I don't change her food, we stick with the treats and food she has tolerated to this point. I hope this helps!

Mange - it can cause little bumps and scabs all over the body. There are 3 kinds two that are highly contagious and one that is not. The contagious is know to us humans as Scabies. They get it from outside, from other animals and from wild animals. This is something the vet should have seen. It can also be allergic reaction to the shamppo or bathing liquids used. It can be a number of things. What kind of dog is it?

If it is a Strafordshire Terrior they are typically called hot spots!
Triple antibotic cream helps! It happens in the summer time. It can be caused by fleas, and insect bites!

My cat had a similar problem...he had red rashes, that devolped into crusty scabs...the vet said it was an allergy to flea bites. The anti biotics may just need some time to work.

As the vet has surely checked her for parasites, it is likely an allergy to something she is in constant contact with, either internally or externally. Often the culprit is carpet cleaner, or Swifter clean-ups, or grasses, nearly anything she contacts daily.
I assume you are feeding a hypo-allergenic kibble?
If not, Wellness and Solid Gold make great kibbles for chronic allergies... NOT Science Diet.
these are available at most locally owned pet supply shops.

I have a chocolate lab who has similar problems. It is most likely allergies. Have you changed anything about her routine, or schedule? I would look into everything. It may be the medicine.

Yes I have. We have a Lake House, and took him swimming. We were told it was some kind of bites or reaction from the lake water.
