I have all my recipes on my computer.

I have categories and sub-categories. When I find a recipe I want to try I just copy and paste it into a word document and save it in the appropriate category or sub-category. That way I can always print them if needed and the search is rather easy.

It works for me because I have tried just about every type of file box and nothing ever seemed to have enough sub-dividers and when I went to find a recipe usually I had already forgotten where I filed it. Did I file it under meat or pasta etc. and I had to wade through all the recipes just to find what I was looking for in the file box.

I must admit that it took me quite awhile to type all my recipes, but it was worth it. Besides you will probably write all your recipes on those little cards anyway or at least cut them out of the magazine and/or paper and attach them to the cards, which is time consuming in itself.

Plus it gave me the opportunity to go through that huge box of recipes I cut out and never filed.

It is amazing how many recipes I threw out that I really did not want anyway but just kept them in a box. When you have to type your recipes it frees you to be really selective.

Another benefit is when I am on Yahoo Answers I can just copy my recipe while on-line and paste it right into "Answer this Question" box and I am ready to go. I like sharing my recipes and it gives a more personal touch when answering recipe requests. Most people know that they can search for recipes themselves, and I think they would rather have a recipe then a link.

I've tried a few that I've liked. If you're wanting software for your computer, try Betty Crockers Master Suite. It containes several cookbooks that you can search. Plus, it has a My Recipe section that lets you write your own. If your ingredients and measurements are recognised by the program, it will even break down the nutritional values. You can catagorize them, and print them.
If you're looking for something online, try allrecipes.com.
