He can afford anythin I want. I am not a Paris Hilton wanna be. I just dont know what kind of price range I should look at. He said I could have whatever I wanted.

I think that it's not about price so much as size and style. When I went to try on rings there were just certain shapes and sizes that looked better on my hand than others. Go try on a bunch of stuff, see what you like - and what he likes, too. I would recommend going to all kinds of stores too. Anywhere from the mall, to local Jewelers, to Cartier (which I think is the best but...I'm biased because that's where mine is from.)

There use to be a standard amount like one or two months salary is a good amount to spend on a ring.
Anymore it doesn't matter, If you want a simple ring the cost can be very minimal but if you want specific stones/quality then you will be looking at a higher cost. Go to stores, check the Internet, and find the kind of style you are looking for then you will have an idea of what you want and the kind of price range.

The ring doesn't have to be really expensive, it is the thoughts and love that are more important. An engagement ring is usually priced between $1,000-$10,000. I have heard before that an estimated figure is between 1-3 month of the fiance's salary. Don't stress about the ring and don't be greedy. Just be happy that you're getting married to the guy of your dreams.

Depending on his financial situation. You can get pretty much anything you want at any price. The difference is going to be the cut, color, clarity, and size. All jewelery stores will work with your budget and that will help narrow down the choices. We worked with the 4 elements that we liked and it came out to around 3 thousand.

I think the 3 times him monthly income is an old tradition.

my engagement ring was $2000 and my wedding band was $800. It really depends on what you want, and what price range you want to stick around (even if he says whatever you want, stick to a price range and try to bargain with the jewler, they will go down in price). Go around to different shops, look at things, get an idea of what you like, and go from there.

Good luck!

What happened to the surprise aspect of getting engaged? I think it would be more special if you ask him to pick it out for you. He will appreciate the fact that you trust his judgement, and you should appreciate him picking it out and love the ring regardless of what kind it is or how much it cost. (Guys agonize over picking out "just the right one" because they want us to like it)<---you should appreciate the effort. You could let him know what type of cut you prefer, but I wouldn't go any further than that.

i suggest you go into the jewellery store and pick the ring you would like best.but remember at the end of the day the marriage is about the love ye share for one another rather than the price of the ring.

Only what he can afford. It's not the bling - it's the love and commitment that counts. Don't be greedy! If it's that important then maybe you shouldn't be getting a ring.

Don't be a greedy Paris Hilton wanna be, just be happy if he buys you one at all.
