Terrorism can not ever be eliminated completely. Although the US and its allies are fighting a Global War on Terrorism (GWOT), people around the globe should understand that no one expects to kill or capture every terrorist. The end desire is really to reduce the terrorist’s capability to effectively conduct aggressive actions against others. Whether it is done by direct actions (bullets in the head), starvation (financial and materiel), or psychologically (reducing available recruits or convincing potential terrorists that there are diplomatic means to address their grievances) the best case scenario reduces terrorism back to a "manageable" level.
Although the terrorist attacks against the US, Spain, and the UK remain fresh in many people’s minds, others have already gone back to living their lives in a state of conscious denial. Does terrorism creep into your daily thoughts? If it does, are you concerned that you might be subjected to an attack? I can not provide you with accurate statistics (without doing some lengthy research) on your chances of being killed by a terrorist, but I think you have a better chance of being attacked by a shark in Nebraska.
So with your fear hopefully reduced, I would like to emphasize the fact that the GWOT is a necessary requirement in reducing the global capabilities of misguided or misinformed individuals who place little, if any, value on human lives. The constant media coverage belief that the GWOT is a modern Crusade is not only wrong, but also counter-productive. The world is on the cusp of true globalization, with all of its inherent benefits and difficulties. At the minimum it promises a level of connectivity and collaboration that could help solve many of the world's ailments. The root cause of today's global terrorism is the realization by many "have-nots" of what the "haves" truly possess. The disparity bothers people at different levels, such as religiously or politically. The few who either want to level the playing field or prevent those "corruptive" effects of globalization and who possess a lack of concern on how to achieve their goals can turn to violence, because of its inexpensive nature (monetarily). This truth can be found in countless events throughout history. Terrorism is a constant that must be dealt with through action. Currently war is one of the options. If the world can be changed so that everyone considers themselves as one of the “haves”, the world’s options for dealing with terrorism and terrorists will likely change. That however is the biggest “if” to satisfy.

Oh brother! What a bunch of woosie, empty headed answers. Yes, terrorism will be defeated in spite of the world's cut-and-run defeatists.
It will work like this. The terrorists are having a very hard time targeting the US. Also, they have seen that terrorism in the US only brings Americans together and strengthen their resolve. So the terrorists are picking other targets around the world to get those nations to put pressure on the US to get out of the Middle East and just let the terrorists dictators alone. This is the terrorists' big mistake. At a certain saturation point, these nations will have had enough and they will finally join with America and its allies in a world-wide effort to rid the world of terrorism. When there is no where for them to go, when there is no money available, and when there is no more support from the world media, it will be over.

Terrorism is a means to attain a political goal. Fighting a war without addressing the core political issues will never succeed. Sometimes politicians like to put the country into an unending state of war because it increases their domestic political power, and they can claim that anyone who disagrees is "siding with the terrorists".

The history of human nature would indicate that there is NO good, permanent solution, only a series of imperfect ones. Each has its own place according to the circumstances.
It is nearly impossible to fight terrorist movements, because they are not able to be readily defined as a group, like a country can be.
Although, holding a country that harbors and supports them responsible is one possibility. Some of these soverign states actually use terrorist groups as unofficial agents for their world policies.

Terrorism is here to stay. It like a pot of boiling water, you can stop the boiling by adding cold water for a little while, but the flame is there and it will boil over again.
Sons and Daughters see their parents and relatives lives destroyed, they will grow up to get even.
Right solution? Turn off the flame. Who is benefiting from all this, who is taking advantage of this? Find a REAL common cause

Instead of fighting over dying land, preserving race and culture differences. We should invest all the energy effort into developing progress as a human race... and we do not have a lot of time in that either. Mother earth is dying! A possibility to grow a new earth with Knowledge, but should human race or even a missing part of the race cease to exist... the possibilities will ever shrink so much. End of man-kind, end of GOD and all its knowledge!

The right solution is to stop invading other countries. We need to target the areas in which terrorists do their recruiting and do everything we can to improve that environment: by sending massive amounts of food and clean water (if it's lacking), by helping to build infrastructure, by building and using schools, and by doing everything we can to help alleviate the economic conditions that lead to terrorism.
And in that case, there will still be some terrorism. But if we cut off their base - if we educate, feed, and help cloth them, if we give them the economic freedom to achieve self-determination - it will shrink and shrivel into a minority that we can easily deal with.

I wish I knew a solution. But war is not it. Terrorists are not acting on behalf of a particular country, so going to war with a country isn't the answer.

This so-called War on Terrorism will actually create more terrorists. It is self-defeating and doomed to failure. Bush should fly to the moon where he should jump in the biggest crater he can find and stay there.

I don't know that war will end terrorism, however, what else will? Terrorist are not going to sit down and talk peace. They want to take over...dictate, and rob the people of their freedoms, take their money and possessions through violence, torture, and murder.
Terrorists are just that...Terrorists. Their motivation is terrorizing those that choose not to allow them to be in charge.
Saddams reign was one built on terror.
