I prefer to use cold water as the hot and warm water soften the bristles of my brush too much (I already use a soft toothbrush to begin with) and I like to be assured that I am actaully cleaning my teeth by feeling the bristles while I brush.

cold to rinse the brush off before i use it and hot to rinse the brush off when i'm done with it
