It promotes desirability. It makes you want more points so you can answer more. It keeps you from saying 'thanks for the 2 points' for every question.

It's probably based on previous experience with some lunatics who would respond 87 times if they didn't like the person asking the question.

You can always go back to your own answer and edit or modify it. The asker can also add to their question, so you can actually have somewhat of a dialogue this way.

Here you go... I'm answering Dagblastit who posted after me. The points can be used to ASK questions. I guess you start out with a certain number of points and you use something like 5 or 10 points every time you ask a question. This encourages participation in a give and take community instead of take, take, take. There are actual rules somewhere, but it's been a month since I read them, so don't take my word for these values. Check out the help files for details, but that's the general idea. Now, I have no idea what the levels will get you. It's like a video game! "Wow, I made it to level 3. Can't wait to get to level 4!"

Oh, I see DGW explained the level thing. Thanks. (Another edit)

idk, but i am only allowed to answer 20, and if i go over 20 (which has only happened once) it says you can't answer this question. The more points you get, the higher your level gets, and every level you can answer more questions.

Heck if I know. Why do they give out points?
