I am 23 years old. How old do you think would be too old of a man for me to go out with. The guy I am interested in is currently 40.

Alright. I am NOT a gold digger, haha. He is stable and has a career, but he sure aint rich.

He does not have kids and has never been married. He's been in a few long-term relationships with women of all different ages...nothing has worked out.

We have so much in common that it's scary...that's why I want him.

I see you are young and wants to get the best out of life. At your age a mans age should not be much of a problem, to me the problem should center arround what you want from the relationship.

As long as you are over 18, I see no problem in your age difference. Just some advice though men that age are often (unless they are a notorious lotharios) looking to settle down. And if he was married before and already has kids, most men wouldn't want to have a whole second family at that age, while others might. Just make sure you are on the same page with him, and find out what he really is wanting to get out of starting this relationship with you.

Because you are only 23 five years each way, so for you 18-28.
You will break up with him sooner or later because you are at two different stages of your lives. I'm just trying to save you time and heartache because the longer this goes on the worse it will get. This is why you are talking to us about it instead of your family,. Because you're embarrassed about it and you know it won't work out. And he would be well... if he was to go along with it. He should know better. Find someone closer to your own age and enjoy being young.

For you to date a man at 40 is probably allright. But what is it that you could have in common? When he was your age - in the 80s (when you was a little girl) he had different friends, interests, goals, - whatever.

So when you get serious - and you are to involve in his friends - the 40 year olds - married - finished with children - people.

No, i think he is too old for you - look for someone your own age. Much easier for you.

Tooooo old honey. Too many decades of differences. For a 23 year old, or any age - 11 years tops older.

Think of it this way -- when you are 40 - he will be 57. Yikes. Scary huh? 10 years - 11 years tops older.

Good range for your current age would be: 22 to 33.
Anything older is still ok but the experience of life comes too much into play for long term happiness.

The great thing about living in America is you have the freedom to choose to date anyone you want. Age shouldn't make a difference at all. I'm 20 and my bf is 38!! We are so happy together that no matter what anyone else says that's not going to change how we feel about one another.

I think 40 is too old. But that is just my opinion. Do you want a father figure in your life (and if the answer to that is yes, you might want to look into why) or do you want a partner? There can be exceptions I suppose.

40 years not bad. He´s not old. You may think a difference of 17 years is too much. Don´t think about it, just relax and have fun with him. If you love him it´s ok.
