Walmart has pretty cute and durable toddler clothes. I've spent a fortune on baby clothes at Dillard's only for them to fall apart after the first washing.
Also, the real key is to start shopping for next years summers clothes this fall. Usually in September they have GREAT sales at all clothing stores to get rid of the excess summer clothes, to make room for fall and winter stock. You can get Tommy Hilfiger, or baby Polo for $2 & $3 dollars a shirt. Also, you might beable to find a few left over winter items on clearence for 75 to 80% off. Try Marshalls for name brands. If your guy wares 2T this summer, get him 4T for next summer. When I do this, I usually get stuff with elastic or adjustable waist bands just incase my judgement is off. These kind of clothes can be more forgiving.

I go to the nicer 2nd hand stores and find some really nice things there at a fraction of the cost. The goodwill in my area is not very nice and the clothes definitly look like goodwill clothes. I have also found lots of clothes on EBAY. They will sell like 75 piece lots and usually bidding starts at .99 so you I have won whole bags of clothes for .99 and most the time it includes baby gap, Nike, Gymboree etc... check it out. Its fun too.

try Ebay.com
you can find people who are selling off lots of clothes for dirt cheap prices. Most of them are in pretty good condition. You can also shop the clearance racks at Walmart, Target, etc... I found Old Navy to have good quality clothes for very good prices. There are also websites where you can trade with other families... no money exchanges hands. I'm sure you'll have something that someone else needs. I don't have the specific website names, but if you do a search for say: babies, clothes, barter or trade... you should find a few hits.

I have sold lots of clothes to Once Upon a Child. I don't know if you have one in your area but the have nice stuff. Or if you want the upper end stuff there is always a good sale rack at Baby Gap. Also you may want to try Childrens Place. Both Gap and Childrens Place have great durability. Good Luck.

I'm not sure where you live - but here in Alabama we have Dollar General Stores and Family Dollar Stores and they have the "irregular" clothes from JCPenney, Parisian and other department stores. A friend of mine pointed this out to me who works there. And there is nothing noticeably wrong with the clothes maybe a stitch is off or the tag is off-center. As a matter of fact I bought my daughter's Easter dress at Dollar General and it was exactly the same as one I saw at the mall but about $40 cheaper.

Consignments shops are totally the way to go.
And Old Navy's Sale/Clearance Racks
Get on JCPenney's mailing list to receive $10 off coupons at least twice a year. Try ebay. Ask around at church or a friend for hand me overs.

I shop at a second hand store when I want clothes and baby things right away. But I find the best deals with pretty good value at garage sales, but they are kind of hit and miss. Also you can try looking on ebay.

Goodwill and Salvation Army have been a wonderful, my daughter regularly wears Carters and Baby Gap or pennies, usually a dollar a pop. We asked around the family, so we have plenty of hand-me-downs. There are Yahoo groups you can join for trading clothes and such, see if you have a local FreeCycle group. Offer up your son's old clothes and get some bigger ones from people who are done having kids. Beleive me, people who are done having kids are desprate to get rid of the piles of kids clothes!

Consignment or resale shops. There are ALWAYS tons of stuff there, including clothes and bedding, etc.
Look in your local yellow pages & I'm sure you'll be surprised. Just because it was worn previously doesn't necessarily mean that it wasn't well cared for or once belonged to a self-proclaimed "stain master"! You can get really great deals for literally a fraction of its original cost...
