Are there any motivational movies or activities out there that would inspire her to play the violin better?

As a music teacher I can say that kids respond well to inspiration and competition. If she has friends who also play, that helps. We live next door right now to two little girls, sisters, learning piano. They obviously challenge and inspire one another.

It also helps for her to go to concerts, specifically of women violinists.

Also I advise you not to overlook the idea that kids get excited when they see their instrument played in different ways.

I'm a classically trained guitarist. But I didn't get really excited about guitar until I saw some great jazz guitarists improvising.

So maybe expose her to some country fiddle, or some jazz fiddle (Joe South, Stephan Grapelli are the greats there)...

Good luck... I know if she sticks to it she'll feel blessed her whole life long.

Students of all kinds tend to learn better when they are having fun.

Can you think of ways to make the lessons fun? Some pieces of music are more "playful" than others. Some are written specifically for children with children in mind, while others are dull and boring, covering only the basics.

The basics are important, but can be enhanced by the attitude of the teacher. Scales can even be fun if done in a varied and interesting manner. I would suggest teaching the scale the orthodox, or "correct" way first, then try varying up the rhythm, or order of the notes a bit.

Music is a joyful thing, why not make it so, while still covering the essentials and basic foundation blocks (hand position, note location, scales, etc)?

Good luck

the actual undeniable reality that you're asking this questions shows that you care and also you do have the motivation in there- you in basic terms choose somewhat encouragement. How about quite questioning about what it is you want to do once you depart college- what grades do you want, how are you going to get there? The extra sturdy you artwork in college the more desirable off you'd be contained in the accurate- it is going to set you up for existence. I choose i theory like you at the same time as i became in college- I merely were given by, didnt quite placed the more desirable attempt in. I have continuously worked considering the fact that I left college yet i'm no longer in a occupation that i respect- I merely have an workplace pastime and mandatory to artwork more desirable jobs right here and there to pay my personal loan and expenditures ! i imagine decrease back to after I left 10 years in the past and do not ignore that if i'd have theory about all of it somewhat extra and made somewhat extra attempt then possibly issues would have come somewhat a lot less puzzling. attempt to imagine about the destiny- it would want to look like some distance off besides the undeniable fact that it is going to fly round. sturdy success. i comprehend you may do it.

You can take her to different concerts or recitals, may be she can personally talk with other musicians and feel more confident in her playing.

But we cannot force any one to get involved in the arts if they don't want, maybe she likes the violin but she is too lazy to practice, maybe she doesn't like it at all. Maybe she likes another instrument, maybe she just hates music.

My advice: Ask her to be honest with you and tell you what she really wants to do. Once she feels confident she will tell you for real what she wants.

In My case, my brother sisters and me all we play instruments and one of my sister and me have degrees in Music. No body forced us to study music we did it because we love to perform, we love to play, and we practice hard and study every day to get better and better.

What is this young girl's dream? Think of that, she needs to works for her own dreams no for your dreams or any one else's dreams.

My dream was to be a Singer... Now I am a Professional Opera Singer. I worked hard for that because that was what I really want to be in my life.

If she doesn't take the violin and play without any one tell her. If she get mad any time if you ask her to practice or play, if she doesn't like to go to her violin lessons.. then you need to talk to her and see what happens, She probably doesn't want to play the violin.

I'm not a musician myself (sadly), but when I was trying to learn the piano, the reason I wanted to, and the reason I'd go back to it was just hearing music for it that was just incredibly good. I'd imagine the same would be true for any instrument.

I can't imagine listening to Barber's "Adagio For Strings", for example, and not desperately wanting to be able to pick up an instrument and perform it just as well as the professionals can.

Bribe her with a pet. My mother got me to practice piano for the first two years by buying me a turtle (that's what I wanted!!!)at the end of each of the years. After that, I was good enough that I started to enjoy playing and listening to myself, and further bribes were no longer needed. I ended up majoring in piano performance in college. Good luck.
