As close to humiliation as poss.. within reason but it must be in public.. it will still be very romantic but it takes balls for a guy to go all out like that.. also it would be funny and something to remember and smile about!

In fantasy land it would play like this:- He would take me to a fantastic restaurant, we would have dinner and drinks and then talk at our secluded little table and enjoy each others company. When I order desert it would come on a silver platter covered by a silver lid. When I lift the lid there is no desert, instead on a bed of rose petals there is an opened jewelry box containing a delicate platinum set diamond solitaire ring and he would ask me to marry him.
However in the real world, being proposed to by the man I love in any setting would be romantic and wonderful.

I'm a simple person, so a nice romantic candlelit dinner for the proposal would be sufficient enough for me; however, my fiance, proposed to me right in Times Square new York, so that was pretty nice and it caught me off guard as well. So as long as it's a surprise to you, then how its presented doesnt really matter. if he given enough thought to go out and get the ring and set it up to propose to you, HOW he actually does it shouldnt matter because it will always be romantic and memorable to you!

The ideal setting would involve my family being around and him proposing in front of them.

I used to think that I knew what I wanted in a proposal. I wanted some big thought out plan, make him sweat about it.
Then I met someone incredible, and I don't know what I want. I do know that however it happens, it will be perfect for us.

well it didn't happen like this but this is what i would have wanted. i would want it to be in the winter, and walking outside where you could see your breath and you have to snuggle to be warm and just come out and ask, and then find
a nice restaurant to go to an celebrate after the proposal oh and no getting down on one knee

my ideal proposal would be at the park, watching the stars. him leaning over and telling me how much he loves me and that he wants to spend the rest of his life with me. and he pulls out the ring and asks me to marry him. i start to cry and say "yes" and we kiss under the stars and go home and make passionate love...
if only...

any place that he has put thought into and planned out the moment - I want to feel like it was at least important enough for him to take time to prepare the details
