WOAH! Hold it. Lot of jumping to conclusions (which is understandable given the emotional nature of the subject matter). What do you mean by sex offender? Many states or bodies define the term so broadly that it might include those convicted of public nudity or indecency (IE getting drunk and peeing in a public place), indecency with a minor (even if the person was also a minor), possession of prohibited sexual materials (even a married couple with "toys"), engaging in "unnatural" sexual relations/deviancy (again, even between consenting adults). So it really depends.

I would have a hard time calling some of the examples I mentioned malicious. OTOH, sexual predators are a different matter entirely. But even then, they are not necessarily "malicious" (meaning possessing malice or deliberately harmful), since in their warped view they didn't intend to cause harm. That doesn't justify their behavior or make it any less reprehensible, of course!

Is sex offender an all encompassing word for each situation? A couple of years ago we got a letter in the mail informing us of a registered sex offender living in our area. People were panicking at first. Reading the offense details on the letter showed that it had been a 17 yo guy who had consensual sex with his 15 yo girlfriend. Her parents were mad and pressed the charges. He was charged with sex with a minor. Even though he was still a minor.

Based on that I don't think he was being malicious. I think he and his girlfriend had sex and got caught by her parents who flipped out.

Now the people who are habitual offenders and are out there to rape women, and molest kids have major issues. They didn't all start out as malicious people. They were all innocent babies and kids at one time too. Maybe they had been molested as kids. Maybe they continue that sick cycle of family dysfunction so prevalent in todays world.

Yet, yes, there are people out there who are malicious. They show up on the news and in trials and prison interviews and you wonder what is wrong with that person to do those things?!?!?!

But are all SO's malicious? My opinion would be no. It can't be an all encompassing remark. Each person and case is different.

The people who are habitual should be locked up and not released ever. The horny teenagers having mutual sex and getting caught by the parents don't fall into that category.

Just my 2 cents.

Well if you look at the definition of malicious :

1. Having the nature of or resulting from malice; deliberately harmful; spiteful

Then look at the definition of malice:

1. A desire to harm others or to see others suffer; extreme ill will or spite
2. Law The intent, without just cause or reason, to commit a wrongful act that will result in harm to another

Then the answer would be some sex offenders are malicious people. A 17 year old boy who has sex with his 15 year old girlfriend whose parents charge him with statutory rape and he is convicted of statutory rape is considered a sex offender. By definition he is not acting in malice. So not all sex offenders are malicious, just most of them.

No! But don't look at me like I have no feelings and no morals. I was sexualy molested as a child and beleive that the experionce though devostating made me who I am today.
I beleive that the majority of sex offenders that are out their don't do it out of malice but because they know no better. over 97% of todays sex offenders were victims of a sexual offences in some time of their life and no one ever taught them that it was wrong. so they do what they think is right. Some of them are Develope mentaly disabled and will never comprehend why people look at them the way we do. I do beleive that the reason every one beleives that they are malicious people is that we do not fully understand how they could do something like that and dont realize that not all of them see what they are doing as wrong. Think of it this way if your parents taught and allowed you to cuss all your life and you went to school cussing and everyone told you it was wrong, it wouldn't matter because it was ok to cuss with your parents You would go throughout life cussing up a storm no matter what people think , no matter how they look at you, and no matter who tells you your wrong. This is what most of them were taught weather it was their parent, uncle, aunt, stranger, or just a mother not wanting to let everyone know how sick her new boyfriend is. Some of them know that it is wrong but chose not to listen, those people are malicious.

Yes, malicious in the fact that they seduce children. Of course they are malicious. The sad part is, I never hear any GOOD recovery type stories. In Florida, they let them out of jail - only to go back out and do the same crimes and some have been turning deadly.

No. I just saw a news story about a woman who was required to register as a sex offender simply because she had knowledge of a sex crime and did not report it to the authorities. Now she cannot live within a specified distance of a school or daycare.

There are all types of sex offenders---some are even categorized as passive --aggressive but even at that rate---all of these people are violators of an individuals personal space on a level of intrusive behaviour and by that definition alone ARE malicious----so---in answer to your question ----YES

No. Some have been labeled "sex offenders" because they flashed someone in public. Others were accused of date rape (a he-said, she-said) and plead "no contest" to settle things out of court. Those people have to register as a "sex offender" for the rest of their lives. When looking for who the sex offenders are in your neighborhood, pay attention to what they were convicted of.
