If they are allowed to live outside and be free, I hear they are about one of the smartest birds around! Let the crow come and go as it pleases!

It is legal. Provided they are Hooded Crows or White Necked Ravens. You cannot keep a Common Crow as a pet unless you have a lisence the first 2 are legal because they are native to Africa and are bred here in the United States. You cannot keep a bird native to North America such as owls, Blue Jays, and Cardinals just to name a few. The Common Crow is one as well, like I said if you have a lisence you can. But if you dont you can buy a hooded crow or a white necked raven. www.mynahbird.com has a breeder listed for them.

As far as my opinion on keeping them as pets. It is fine as long as you feed, water, and shelter the animal with the best care possible and you are well informed on the specie's behavior it is fine.

tv's Marc Marrone has a hand fed Common Crow named Dante, Marc has the lisence to own Dante and is thus allowed to keep him. I've met and held Dante, he is very gentle and affectionate.
Marc Marrone taught me all this.

As a pet though they MUST be hand fed and well socialized from a young age. A wild crow as a pet can be dangerous but at tame hand fed crow makes a wonderful pet. The only down side is they can be loud at times but they only squak for a few minutes a time during the day and when their upset with something

I've never heard of a pet crow. I would think they would be noisy and kind of annoying. It seems like more of a wild bird to me. If it was raised by a human from the time it was born, I guess that's a different story. It would still make that "Caw" sound which is loud from the trees, I couldn't imagine that noise in the same room as me.

Crows are cool! You will want to check with the state laws though, some states do not allow Crows to be pets.
They will arrest you if they are illegal to keep as pets.

Crows ARE very intelligent. They are also very FAMILY oriented birds.
You should not attempt to catch one as a pet.
Why not just enjoy them as they come and go freely?
A friend of mine once found a nestling that fell and was abandoned, he watched it for hours first before taking it in, as the parents and all the babies relations will defend a baby!
I know from experiencing a baby crashed into the window of my home and was stunned. He seemed to be alone at first I just picked him up carefully and gave him comfort...
WITHIN seconds MOM and DAD and the whole family came to say...
LET HIM GO OR ELSE!
So as soon as he felt up to it I did let him go!
BOY was his family happy about that!
So it is dangerous to take one from a flock.
And usually they are NOT sold in stores.
IF you have found one that was abandoned it will need FAMILY and you are IT.
BACK to my friend, he raised his and kept it free NO CAGE!
Only at night to be safe from cats until he was old enough to protect himself.
But this Crow followed my friend FLYING where ever he went or in the car he perched on the seat and waited until they got to where ever and flew over my Friends and waited outside of stores and such or hopped on his shoulder! And went inside.
My friend took him hang gliding too and this is were the Crow learned to FLY!
When they Crow became a year or so old he FLEW the nest and found a flock! He still comes around to visit my friend and beg for scraps from time to time.
An ANIMAL born in the wild needs to grow up and live in the wild and must only be kept in captivity IF it is injured or weak. And then it must be acclimated to the wild properly, not just tossed back into the wild without learning to fend for itself.

I've heard that they are smart...One of my relatives had one and he states it could speak like a parrot... Of course, I didn't see that, all I know is that he has a huge scar across his chest because he tried to force the crow into a barn. The poor thing got really scared and defended itself, it scrated my incle's chest and poked his head with his beak...

JUST BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THE CROW, ALTHOUGH WE MAY THINK THAT THEY ARE USED TO HUMANS, THEY ARE WILD ANIMALS AND DESERVE RESPECT...

It's okay, but crows are smart and need constant stimulation.
