All Apple computers ship with a copy of Microsoft Office Test Drive for Mac. It's basically a trial version which lasts for 30 days. If you've already purchased the full version, you might as well stick with it. If you're a student and you didn't get a discount when you purchased the software, you could try and sweet-talk Apple and see if they'll refund the discount amount. It's not guaranteed to work but you won't know until you try.

Pity is that Apple will not redeem it and MS Office is also expensive.

Since you say it's for a school, why don't you try downloading the free MS Office alternative for MAC from http://www.neooffice.org/

This gives you all the Options of MS Office like Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc, with different names for them, plus a "Maths" software that's great for school kids. It's a free license download. Only problem is it's a very big file, so it'll take a long time to download; but totally worth all that time.

All the best.

A few years back Microsoft kept Apple out of bankruptcy for the sake of keeping Office alive on the Mac platform. Aside from OS X, Office accounts for something like 40% of all software sold for the Mac.

Office for Mac is a very profitable product for Microsoft, and won't make sense for them to give it away for free.

I think you are refering to Apple now having the Windows software included in the operating system. I'm not sure if Office is included, it may be. As far as them redeeming you...you will learn that nothing is free and once somebody has your money, you are not getting it back. Sorry, I know how it goes!
