I think that's just discriminatory and prejudiced and I'm offended deeply.

Because it is assumed that being a christian implies that you would live like the bible commands. The right wing is the closest to the Biblical beliefs. That you would be offended to be associated with the biblical commandments and call yourself christian is something that I find interesting. Actually I don't understand is a better word as your quoted belief and lifestyle would be contradictory.
Being left wing would leave you as , pro abortion, pro late term abortion, pro homosexual, and a few other things which are really contrary to the book that you claim has given you eternal life.. would be interesting to have a little more of your explaination so I could understand better what you are saying.

It is discriminatory and prejudiced, however, people don't look at the whole picture. They look at the few that spoiled the bunch. If you are not like that, then work to change the popular view people have. Speak up when you hear questions like I just found, a man asked when God would kill off all the gays because they are a so-called abomination. I am not gay and I was offended. It goes back to the old addage, if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. If they do say stuff, stand up to them and do what you know is right. What he was doing to gays is prejudiced and discriminatory, and so is what you are going through. Then remember that some people are just jerks.

Probaly because the right wing/conservatives have basically sold their souls to the Religious Right and they now have as their platform many of the same ideas that a good number of Christians subscribe to, or that have come to be associated with Christian thinking such as being anti-choice (oh excuse me...pro-life), anti-gay rights, wanting to indoctorate Biblical teachings more into the public schools, etc.

Personally I don't think politics should have anything to do with religion or spirituality and I don't care what political party someone is....right wing, left wing, both of them are messed up.

the fundamentalists have highjacked Christianity, and Islam, too, for that matter. Huge change coming, and people are insecure, grasping at whatever they can find that is solid. Hence, fundamentalism. You are better off being flexible, like the story of the oak tree and the reed in the storm (the oak tree fought the storm and was blown down - the reed bent over with the wind and stood up straight afterward).

It's a result of the 'fast-food' mentality running rampant in America lately.

Few people take the time to find out anything. They've come up with phrases and labels to describe others. Then these phrases are labels are spewed thoughtlessly with no regard for others and no effort is made to analyze anything.

Such laziness is described as 'sloth' in the bible, but I have not seen anyone using THAT label on this forum.

If you are ok with homosexuals perverting marriage or you believe that a baby can be almost full term, have the baby completly delivered except the head so the doc can suck its brain out, partial birth abortion, then dont worry about what people think. Let God deal with you about these choices in life and the bottom line is God is in controle of our school, job, or whatever but if you dont do your best then He wont do His. I dont see how a christian can vote these things in.

It's because the religious right is so very vocal about being Christians, so I guess if you tell someone you're a Christian they just assume you are right wing. Remember what happens when you assume. :)

I try not to make that assumption. (I'm Pagan.) However, there are a lot of very loud people who call themselves Christians and claim to speak for all "real" Christians, who are right wing. The media highlights them because they make good copy and are always up to *something*. Now liberals and moderates are speaking up more; I think that's a good thing. If someone claims to represent you, and they're actually *not*, it's your duty to speak up for yourself.

Probably because most self professed Christians are right wing nutcases and hypocrites besides. You may be the exception, and that would be nice, but I find that most people who claim to be Christians are also self righteous, arrogant, judgemental and very difficult to be around.

Because so many Christians in the media ARE right wing. In order to be heard as different, you have to speak up.....LOUDLY.

Addition: Quickly name the 3 best known Christians. How many of them are conservative Republicans?
