i have 2 parakeets. the male lets me hold him and he sits on my finger and stuff like that. but the female has recently became very very skiddish and kind of territorial. i noticed that she has grown alot in the belly area. (idk if that has anything to do with her laying eggs). is she "pregnant"?

You should seek veterinary care for your bird immediately. Sitting on the floor of the cage is never normal, and it sounds like your little parakeet is "egg-bound." If this is the case, then her life is in danger.

Female birds (most commonly budgerigars/parakeets, cockatiels, finches and some other species) can become stimulated to lay eggs without breeding. This can happen in response to the presence of a male, hormonal imbalances, exposure to constant periods of light and dark that mimic springtime, or actual breeding with a male bird. The eggs are often sterile, i.e. they contain no viable chick.

This egg laying will often continue if the egg is sterile, or if the egg is removed immediately, but the stimulus to lay still exists. Such chronic egg laying can deplete the female bird's stores of calcium and other nutrients. Calcium is necessary for muscle contractions, which push the egg through the birth canal. Therefore, lack of calcium from chronic egg laying can potentially result in the egg becoming lodged in the birth canal because the muscles no longer work well enough to push the egg out. The final result: a bird in dire need of immediate veterinary care and a break from laying eggs!

Go to a pet shop and get a nest for 'Keets ask if you don't know, and also the nesting material. Perhaps ask the people at the store what are 'the signs'.
I feel a little concerned that a person allows any animal to breed and does not know about them.
I am sorry, you are not the only one, I read it a lot in here.
It is common sense that if you get a MALE something and a FEMALE of the same breed they will possibly mate and there fore you must take responsibility and help them. I mean They KNOW HOW to DO IT...but they need proper diet and care. Suppose you came home from work/school and found eggs on the cage floor ??? Cold and abandoned! You would feel bad.
So do not take this as an attack, get busy and help the possible parents out NOW!
When people own pets it is THEIR responsibility to LEARN about them first, before getting them, not during their life time, so you need to go on line about the SUDDEN questions you have.
Or did you expect the birds to send out announcements to tell about the NEW EGGS on the way?
YES, I am harsh, people really need to take responsibility for animals if they have them as pets.

Sounds pretty much like it. If U want to, U can get prepared. U can build/buy a bird house for the female. Make sure it's totally dark inside without a single beam of light coming in (except the opening entrance). Get the birdie comfy in there. Get efficient food & water. Remember--U can't watch her laying eggs.
Unfortunately, some parakkets don't know how to hatch eggs, they just break them afterwards.

Sorry, yet no. And it does not matter on what variety of fish that's. in straightforward terms livebearers keep sperm. An egg laying fish's eggs could be externally fertilized via a residing male. that's genuine that ladies who've infertile eggs frequently consume them.

my friend had a parrakeet that layed eggs but she wasn't "pregnant". sometimes the bird's system just makes an egg that isn't fertilized. it might be that that's happening, and that the eggs aren't fertilized, or maybe they are, you never know. if she lays eggs and they don't hatch then you know that her body just made them. if they do hatch then you might want to think about keeping the birds seperate... (unless you want more eggs) and if she doesn't lay eggs then maybe you should take her to a vet or something

I don't think the weight is a sign, but yes she probably will lay eggs. Buy her a nest. Happened to me and my to parakeets.

she probably is, but if you notice heavy breathing, and her standing or sitting on the bottom of her cage a lot and making large droppings then something is wrong with her and she will need to go to the vet. but then again she could just be having her mood swings.
