Boxing is a sport in which two participants of similar weight fight each other with their fists in a series of one to three-minute intervals called "rounds". In both Olympic and professional divisions, the combatants (called boxers or fighters) avoid their opponent's punches while trying to land punches of their own. Points are awarded for clean, solid blows to the legal area on the front of the opponent's body above the waistline, with hits to the head and torso being especially valuable.

The fighter with the most points after the scheduled number of rounds is declared the winner.

Victory may also be achieved if the opponent is knocked down and unable to get up before the referee counts to ten (a Knockout, or KO) or if the opponent is deemed too injured to continue (a Technical Knockout, or TKO). For record-keeping purposes, a TKO is counted as a knockout. On boxers' records, only KO's are mentioned. Technical knockouts are usually only mentioned in contemporaneous news articles.

-There are exactly 12 Rounds(Due to the death of boxer Duk Koo Kim)

-And YES, to idiots out their who think that one can punch like an dumba-- are wrong, one wrong punch can break your hand, or get you DQ'ed for Illegal Attack(Sometimes rare)

-Olympic Boxers use headgear to avoid cuts, scraped, and swelling, but does not protect very well against concussions; Most boxers aim for the chin which is not usually padded.

-Common Punches: Jabs(A quick, straight punch thrown with the lead hand from the guard position)
Cross(A powerful straight punch thrown with the rear hand)
Hook(A semi-circular punch thrown with the lead hand to the side of the opponent's head)
Uppercut(A vertical, rising punch thrown with the rear hand)

Basically 2 guys (or girls) stand in the ring and smash each other in the face as hard as they possibly can can until one of them falls over or until such a point where one of them is so injured that the ref decides that it would be cruel to continue. I love boxing!
