I feed 'human' food often. I chose their kibble because it is made from all human grade ingredients...So, as long as the total diet is nutritionally balanced, and changes aren't causing overly loose stools, go for it!
The worst that might happen is a spoiled dog...as mine are..lol
So many people say "only dog food"..but feed the grocery store garbage...they must not ever read the label to think that they are feeding the perfect food.... A good rule of thumb, is to read the dog food label, and say," would I eat that?"...
Just avoid extra fats and fatty foods, onions, grapes, raisins, not too much tomato, no macadamia nuts, and discontinue any item that causes bowel upset.

If you notice, look at the stuff homemade dog treats are made of, and what people usually eat. In these dog treats you find things like yogurt, whole wheat flour, vegetables, some fruit, and honey. These are real food, like natural sweetners and unprocessed food. This is what people should be eating, but we chose not to. The things we eat aren't good for us either, we just don't care about what we eat. That is pretty much the big difference.

Buy a package of the cheapest meat the Superstore has. Go home and open. Voila. Okay, I'm kidding. I was never one for making homemade doggy treats, mostly because my dogs hated dog treats and only wanted to be rewarded with real meat. I more-or-less adapted a few 'recipes' that seemed to make them like their food better. For dry dog food: Try adding a raw egg or two, plus a container of yogurt, to the dry dog food. Mix it up well and even the pickiest eater will eat. For raw meat slices: Roll them in peanut butter, mashed potatoes, butter, anything the dog will like the taste of. Etc, etc. My German Shepherds love mashed potatoes. I just put them in a baggy and let the dogs lick them off of my fingers. Find out what weird stuff your dog likes and just go with it.

There actually is no problem giving a dog 'human food.' Dog food is made from the same things (meat, vegetables, grains) that we eat. The problem that people run into is when their dog starts begging for the scraps. People also have the tendency to overfeed their dog, which can cause weight and health problems. As long as its occasional and you feed your dog away from the table and where you are making the food, and don't feed them when they come begging, you shouldn't run into any trouble!

I don't see a problem with giving your dog occasional human food...I do it all the time...just NO chocolate as it is poisionus for them. Another great website for doggie recipes is: www.rachaelraymag.com, on the left hand side is a section called pet recipes or something like that. Have fun!

Occassional human food won't hurt them... although I think they can get sick if they eat too much human food or eat it too often.
But chocolate is off limits! It's very bad for dogs.
