The "Kinderhook Plates," a group of six metal plates with strange engraved characters, unearthed in 1843 near Kinderhook, Illinois, and examined by Smith, who began a "translation" of them. He never completed the translation, but he identified the plates as an "ancient record," and translated enough to identify the author as a descendant of Pharaoh. Local farmers later confessed that they had manufactured, engraved and buried the plates themselves as a hoax. They had apparently copied the characters from a Chinese tea box.

So the liar was caught lieing again and the sheep continue to follow....what purpose does it serve an LDS member to know their leader was a fraud?

They would never admit it, they use their early persecution as an example of their suffering, never mentioning their ambush and murder of innocents in Utah.

I don't know how or why they believe their false prophet, only that they are so rich and powerful now that the question is mote!

The Kinderhook Plates:

Mr. Scharffs, a Mormon scholar, points out the fact that although "The plates disappeared ... "one" came into the possession of the Chicago Historical Society in 1920. Several institutions have analyzed this plate, including Bell Telephone Laboratories in New Jersey, and they all indicate this plate is a hoax..." (The Truth About "The God Makers", Gilbert W. Scharffs, 1992, pg. 147). The Kinderhook plates, unlike the golden plates, did exist. The facsimiles of the Kinderhook plate's impressions were preserved in the LDS church records, but copies of the golden plates were not.

Mr. Scharffs' and many other Mormons that know of the Kinderhook plates can only resort to the same claims that I have been hearing since the beginning of my investigation of the LDS Church. The "real" plates are still hidden and may be revealed in the future to show their authenticity. To me, this is just another case where Mormons use blind faith instead of rationality. They are blind to the fact that Joseph Smith may very well be a fraud.

It's funny because I'm a member of this church, and I've never heard of Kinderhook plates, or anything be dug up in illinois, or anything close to chinese characters.

Really, before you start bashing, you need to get your facts straight.

I guess I feel sorry for you, your faith must be very weak to have it strengthened by the bashing of other religions.

I think some know what has happened as far a the golden plates. Much has been written by both sides about the witnesses, the ones that changed their minds about being a witness it's a difficult thing to know the real truth..I think common sense leads us to the truth about the angel, the plates, the new gospel, North American civilizations, 3900 changes in the book of Mormon, I think one should look into the claims and hear both sides

Many will come claiming to be of God yet God is not in them.

We have seen it over and over again, yet many will fall into it.

To become god or a god, they find what they truly want. It has a cost, and that cost will come into play. They wouldn't realize the lie till it is too later. The price they each will pay.
