Study Greek and Hebrew, then read the Bible in the original language. That's what the Arabs do with the Koran. Translations aren't even allowed to be called the Koran.

KJV is better, although it is harder to read for those who are not used to it. The NIV has a lot of rendering in it that I consider questionable. the NIV is not evil, as some Christians view it, it is merely a different translation that I feel takes a little too liberal view. If you have trouble with the KJV, then I recommend the New KJV, which is a modern English rendering of the KJV. Jesus loves you.

KJV is better because the NIV is actually missing some verses. I'm not sure of them all together but if you look it up online you can find lists of what is left out of the NIV. KJV is a complete Bible but it is harder to understand at times.

I have a Bible that has them printed them side by side. Most of the time the NIV helps me to really understand what the scripture is saying, some of the language in the KJV can be hard to understand. For an everyday the NIV will help you understand and interpret better. My woman's devotional is printed in the NIV.
Hope this helps. Go to a Christian bookstore and read the two to see which one you can understand.

KJV is a beautiful work of literature. The language is, of course, difficult for the uninitiated to comprehend but is by no means unaccessible. It does, however, have a number of scholastic shortcomings (the authors of the KJV themselves stated that they looked forward to later discoveries and improvements).
For my money, the NIV is a more useful translation. The use of modern English makes this version much more readable. Furthermore, the NIV draws upon more recent scholarship and discoveries of ancient texts that have given scholars a more complete snapshot of the original Biblical texts.

The NASB is better, IMO. Sometimes I think things get lost in translation with the NIV. The KJV isn't for everyone. Sometimes it is more of a burden just trying to understand it. Don't criticize or be insulted by those who simply can't.
Also, the Amplified is nice, if you want to dig deep into the scriptures. It gives different meanings and words that you can compare other translations with. It isn't adding at all.

KJV b/c it is the closest translation from the orginal, which was hebrew or whatever(not too sure).
People make claims that the KJV is too hard to read, but that's non-sense. If you are truely trying to get something out of the bible, God will not leave you hanging.
It also says in the bible that nothing should be taken away or added to his word and that God will protect his word.
The NIV, even the NKJV waters down the KJV, hence changing the meaning of what God inspired people to write his word.

NIV is good because if you are not very familiar with the bible, it can help you make sense of it all. But as far as being able to come up with the interpretation in the proper context the KJV is better.

KJV has a lot of: though, hath, ye etc.... the NIV is better to me because you understand it more and you learn more from it, unless your a major in english or literature then maybe you will understand the KJV, but yeah, the NIV is a lot easier to understand.

I believe that both the KJV and the NIV are great TRANSLATIONS of the bible. The KJV was authorized in 1611 by King James in Old english language so people could understand. The new modern day TRANSLATIONS are JUST THAT so WE may understand them. They are GOD's word. The KJV was NOT how GOD ment for the bible to be read as said by "i...want...a..yel."

KJV, because it is the most linguistically perfect translation and has been the most widely accepted version for the longest time (since 1611). On a personal note, I find it an insult to the Word to hear people in this advaced age of understanding shun the KJV because they deem it "difficult to understand and etc." therefore giving them "free license" to translate the Word into what they think is right. Many scholars have found "errors" in several modern translations, so I continue to use KJV and always will.
