Okay,

I have just started working out regularly and trying to diet so I am wondering...

I get up at 5 am and either swim or jog for 30 mins, then I do Pilates or Yoga for another 30 mins.

Over my lunch break, I jog for 30 mins and if I have time, I life some weights too.

After work I usually jog for 30 more mins and lift weights.

I used to swim and play soccer before I came to college (like my whole life) and I was always in shape, but not thin, muscular. I get muscular really quickly--I would rather be curvy than cave-woman. I'm short, but I have a pretty athletic build in general. How can I avoid getting too built? I'll never be thin because of my frame and I'm pretty hourglass as it is. I just want to get toned like I used to be, but I dont have a coach yelling at me anymore. lol.

Also, I'm never sore after cardio (except swimming). Am I not pushing it enough? As strange as it sounds after no activity, I can jog 3 miles with very quick recovery time.

Babs--Everyone says that if you dont lift weights, your body doesnt burn as many calories....

Also, as a note, during my junior year of high school, I kinda got "addicted" to exercise...I would run six miles twice/day, swim for hours at a time and lift weights...in just over a month I dropped over 30 lbs and didnt cahnge my eating habits (being VERY unhealthy by most standards, eating w/ my Mom)...we had moved away from my home town and basically I was bored...when I moved back home, everyone was astonished at the difference in my body and kind of worried...so I'm not trying to get back to that mode, I just want to be in my mind--"normal" again

I work a lot and some days I probably consume less than 1000 calories, not on purpose--and then I cant sleep at night because I get hunger pains, lol...

Also, when I eat fruits like apples, I know they have a lot of fiber, I get really hungry like 30 mins later...does that happen to anyone else?

linda--actually after working out I am super energized (unless I swim later in the day, then you can put me to bed :) )

I have tried that running fast and then slowing down to a jog, then increasing--I think it helps when my ipod songs fluctuate between fast and slower songs, lol, it5 pumps me up--but remember, I just started exercising again, I may start wearing out, I'm not sure...

I have a horrible layer of fat over my abs too...and they are definately there, underneath...hopefully all this cardio will expose them.

I worked-out on and off last week and I've stuck to my routine everyday this week and my slacks and button-down shirts are already getting looser.

As a note, I am kinda busty--it doesnt look strange because I have big hips and butt, but I'm a 34D...and I dont wanna lose the boobs :) ...but a long time ago (at the end 0f 8th grade) I weighed like 180 lbs (no lie) and my lowest weight since then has been about 130...still D cup, hopefully they're here to stay :)

i'd say that you have a great motivation to lose the weight and tone your body, but try using more resistance workouts so that you don't get super muscular. running and swimming are awesome ways to lose the fat and have long tone muscles! the weights are good too, but make sure that you're using light weights so that you are just doing lots of reps and not so much for the muscle building.

if you don't feel like you're pushing yourself too much then keep it up, just keep hydrated! that's the only thing that i could see getting in your way. with the amount of exercising you're doing i can see you getting run down without drinking a lot of water..
and lay off the college food, i know it's hard but if you want to look lean and tone again, you have to sacrafice ( i know it's sooo hard, i live in WISCONSIN, cheese, brats, beer, sweet corn, soo much food)

I think your body has adapted to expending so many calories. I like to mix it up once every few weeks. The mix up I can see working would be instead of jogging for 30 minutes, try a 1 minute sprint followed by a 2 minute jog and do that 10 times. Do something that will wake up those muscles.

Thats a bit much for just beginning to start up your exercise routine again. You will be building a ton of muscle by exercising so extrememly. They recommend 30 min.-1 hr. a day. You also have to remember that when you are dieting, your calorie recommendations need to be higher. Your body needs calories to be able to do all that you are doing and by only getting 1600 or so may just not be high enough for you. We burn 500 calories just sleeping, so imagine how many we burn naturally throughout the day without even realizing it.

If you work out too much like you are doing it now your body will get used to heavy work. Once you stop this heavy work-out you will blow up like hell.

Than you will have to conitune workout with same intensity for all your life which is impossible and can have several side effects like knee and back aches when you are old.

SO you need to slowly bring down your excercises to only 1 hour a day. So you can do it all your life!

I think, as long as you feel healthy and don't get super tired every day after so much work-out, you're fine. Seems like you're really fit, I would't worry about not pushing it enough. Usually, 30 mins workout three times a week is enough to stay healthy, as long as you're eating healthy, too.
