I've had different kinds. The kind my mom makes is like a thick brown gravy type sauce with ground hamburg and green beans in it. But they have the LaChoy brand in the can in the store, with beef, chicken, or shrimp, and all the veggies in it, like the water chestnuts and baby corns and stuff. Either one we serve over white rice and/or chow mein noodles. (not the fake kind in the store, we get the real thing from MA)

Depending on ur location, the following might be difficult to find.

1. some noodles (they look like pasta sometimes, if u can't find them, pasta will do fine)
2. 2 eggs beaten
3. some light soy sauce (or soya sauce) - comes in a bottle
4. some sesame oil - comes in a bottle
5. some cooking oil - u should know how it comes in rite ?
6. some leaves from any common vege
7. bean sprouts

a. pour some cooking oil into a big frying pan and heat it up
b. put in the noodles (or cooked pasta)
c. put in the beaten eggs, vege and bean sprouts and fry till cooked
d. serve hot (sliced chilli optional)

Bon Apetit !

chop suey is the beansprout mixture, etc. it's called chow mein when you add the hard noodles to the chop suey..
i used to work for in chinese restaurant. what i learnt was to add a bit of oil in a deap pan, cook either chicken/beef or whatever....put in equal parts of sugar and msg, with a bit of salt with white cooking wine....when meat is done, add a bit of water, then add your veggies (not the sprouts)...simmer for a bit...then add the sprouts.....then get some cleargel (like cornstarch), mix that with a bit of water....move the sprouts to the side and mix to gravey like texture...then add soya....the key here is they always use salt, sugar and msg....msg enhances flavour and is a perservative...so try this, its good...only add the chow mein noodles on top of the mixture.....
