Very easy. There are several reasons you may not be losing weight. If your noticing it in your clothing but not on the scale, you are building muscle while losing weight. Maybe your not exercising, you must in order to lose weight along with the diet. Your body may also be in sort of a starvation mode. That occurs when you are not recieving enough calories. It holds on to the fat. Even people who are eating 1800 cals a day but have strenous workout routines that last a few hours, can experience that. When we are in motion or not, we are burning calories. You burn roughly 500 calories overnight as you sleep. If you are used to eating say 2500 calories and then you just jump into a 1200 calorie diet, this dramatic decrease can also cause your body to hang on to fat. lower than 1200 calories a day is dangerous. Usually the dr. lowest recommendation is to stay between 1200-1500 calorie range every day. I have hypoglaucemia so I have to eat several small meals throughout the day. And I am also on a 1200-1500 calorie diet after having 2nd baby. Last time, I lost 100 lbs. on this diet. Foods that are low in calories are endless and it would take up too much room on here for me to write. I post my daily food journal on www.peertrainer.com . Go there and create an account. Then join the team called 20-something biggest losers. Its open to all ages. There you can post what you eat daily and get tips from your other team members. You can go to my log and skim through it to see how I eat and how many calories it all added up to be. Remember, its about quality not the quantity of food. You have to learn which foods are better for you and lower in calories. By keeping a food journal for a couple of months you will learn these new habits that will stick with you for a lifetime.

Eating too few calories slows your metabolism down and puts your body into a state where it thinks food is scarce. This means it will be very reluctant to give up body fat no matter how much cardio exercise you do (you are getting plenty of exercise, right?). It isn't as simple as "eat less calories, lose more weight". I'd suggest around 1500 calories for a woman as a starting point. Also, think more in terms of nutrient dense foods, rather than low calories foods.

There are NEGATIVE calorie foods like celery and cabbage but in all honesty I can tell you why your not losing weight. You not eating enough.

When not consuming enough calories your body goes into a "protect from starvation" mode where it then hoards all the fat to prevent "death" by it's reasoning. Try upping your calories a little..say to 15-1700 and keep working out..you'll see better results.

I have mostly been on a fresh vegetable and fruit diet since April. But I have a garden which helps. When I do eat meat , its usually fish or chicken not fried and no skin on the chicken. But so many of your vegetables are low in calories , just don't season the cook or steamed with butter. I have lost 40lbs, also beans are good source of protein. Good luck!

In this 1200 calorie diet be sure to include one item from each of the food groups. Lowest calorie foods are negative calorie foods, negative calorie foods are foods that take more calories to eat than they contain, celery, lettuce, peppers. Also to increase your metabolism you could try some hot foods like jalapeno pepper cheese, foods that contain spicy hot that you can tolerate.

Me too! It's actually fun and easy when you put your mind to it. I use those snack size containers of cottage cheese (my favorite snack - 90 calories!) Also, small light 'n' fit yogurts. Celery has NEGATIVE calories - it takes more calories to chew it than it gives you, so that's a great munchie. Raw veggies are the best. I carry a ziploc bag of them with me to work - raw cauliflower, broccoli, zucchini, yellow squash, and of course celery. I just reach into the bag and start munching when I get the urge. Make sure they're raw and fresh, and you get lots of vitamins, and very, very few calories.

celery is considered a negative calorie food. it takes more energy (burns more calories) to digest than what you are actually eating. on another note if your body is not getting enough caleries it will gointo "storage mode" trying to store fat instead of burning it. sometimes adding a few more calories will actually help you lose weight.

That's not enough. You need more calories and exercise. Check out MYPYRAMID.gov. The website analyzes everything you eat and your activities.
