I never said I was Muslim; I said what the Koran teaches. If the Koran doesn't teach this, tell me what is incorrect about the passage I quoted.

Actually, you got the verse wrongly translated. It should say, "Believers, take neither Jews nor Christians for your leaders..."
It never prohibits Moslems to make friends from other religions. But if you chose a leader who is not a Moslem, then he wouldn't lead with Islamic teachings, and they certainly won't uphold Islamic Law as stated in the Koran. That's why Moslems are not allowed to appoint a leader who is not a Moslem.
Please, read the verses before and after to have the exact meaning of this Surah (Surah Al-Maidah). You only take one part of the verses from the Surah, and even have the wrong translation.
I hope this helps to clear things up.

Any book which teaches hatred and seperationalism isn't very religious. Follow your heart. As a youth, I hung out with a group which consited of sever various Christian denomination, a Jew and a Muslim. We all got along great. We were more interested in Peace and Harmony. Of course, that was the sixties.

Do you believe that God would want you to believe that. How is it that you are to teach about Islam to Christians and Jews, but hate them? God is a god of love. His qualities are Love, Justice, Wisdom and Power. You may want to research that verse.
If you believe that Jesus is a messenger to Muhammad, then you must believe in his words and his apostles who preached what Jesus taught. Paul said in Acts 10: 34,35 ...God is not partial, but in every nation the man that fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him.
Muslims believe that Jesus is a prophet from God, so why would (Surah 5:51) tell you not to be friends with a Christian...that's hypocritical.
You were made in Gods image of love. Love is telling you that this scripture is wrong and it doesn't promote peace, but violence and animosity. Let me know what you find.

Well, according to my knowlage, many things in the Koran contradict other statments in the Koran. I am Christian (as you could probly guess) and Jesus told us to love everyone, so I have no problum being friends with somone because of religion. I suggest you look into Christianity. Here's a great site to start: http://www.gfbs.org

Use your brain. Read a lot. Study and care about what you are learning.
Any religion (most religions) that teaches that your religon is the only right one and everyone else is damned is teaching hate, pride, arrogance and separation from others.
We need to get along with others for the survival of our planet . We need to figure out what we have in common and build on that.
Hate and fear produce damage, distrust and death.
Love, forgiveness and balance produce peace and friendship.
Any religion's words can be misused to justify hate and pain.
Think for yourself, based on what is the loving, mature, reasonable thing to do, and then go do it. Good luck.

hello:}
i agree this is what organised religions teach us that only what we are taught by brainwashed controlled indiviuals ,i understand that all religions have their truths ,almost all of them have [like the commandments ]certain aspects of how to live your life and certain RULES to live by .
they ALL basically are the same written in different ways but mainly that you are to love one another as your self and i dont believe their could possibly be a RIGHT religion ,their is only truth !
the truth is that treat all life respectfully ,we are all on this planet together and no one gets out alive anyway !!!!
why not think of the creator as someone who loves us all and expects us to learn tolerance and love instead of hatred and division .
organised religions are just a way to try to control the masses ,there is no reason to hate those of a different culture/creed /or religion .anyone who claims that you must hate someone or a certain sect of people is lying to you .look within and not without their is good and evil in all people mainly because we are all human ,we all are falliable and believing a certain way is not going to get you into HEAVEN or HELL .
living the best you can and stopping ignorance is what we have for weapons against true evil and negativity on this planet if you think one group has the answer your being narrow minded .
enlightened teachers [mohammed, buddha ,jesus etc etc ]tried to teach but MAN has twisted every thought and word to empower themselves and their religions ,why do you think their are so many bloody wars !!!!!
anyway i could go on and on .
but very best to you .

Im sorry, but Repent against your sinful ways and your wrongful religion. Jesus loves you very much, and he died for you. Yes, Muhammed was a real perso, but he didnt develop the true Bible or religion. The Qu'arn says not to have jewish or christian friends because they are trying to hide you from the true religion. The only way to get to paradise is Judaism or Christianity.

Hmmmmm. I'm Christian and I have several Muslim friends. And very good friends they are too.
You're gonna have to decide what's more important, loving God's creation, including other people, or obeying the prophet and missing out on a great deal of good in your life.

If you can't acheive happiness through your beliefs then maybe you should seek other ways. I don't know alot about the Koran but I know that through Christ I have a love of all people and that everyone is my brother or sister in Christ. That makes me sad to that you would follow a teaching that wouldn't allow you to be my firend because our beliefs are different. :(
