I do that, but I'm trying to stop.

It's like somebody who wants to find your best friend comes to your house and asks where he/she is and the friend is inside your house, but you say, "I don't know exactly where (he/she) is, sorry." I know somebody who did that and I couldn't stand that.

Now, this situation is most likely a whole lot different than this one I gave above, but it's like an analogy.

Not telling the whole truth is not a lie, but it misleads people, so it is a lie in disguise if you know what I mean.

You're better off just telling the whole truth. Then, you won't have to remember anything you said or didn't say and everything can be out in the open. If you don't want somebody to know about something, don't talk about it all.

I hope this helps you.

I think so. If you are leaving a detail or three out of a conversation or an explanation of something then it isn't the whole truth. It is lying by omission.

Example: I could tell my parents that I went out with friends last night. Where did you go they ask. We went to the movies, then to eat. If I leave out that we snuck into the bar to eat and got served alcohol, then I am not telling the whole truth or being honest about everything I did. I omitted the part that I knew I would get in trouble over. It was a deliberate omission on my part to hide something. To me that is like lying.

Well its not a complete lie, but telling the truth is very important. Believe me, i have had some incidents where i have not told the truth, and where did that get me? NO WHERE
So in all , if you want to say something, make it true, there is no point in a half lie, and lie's will only build on itself. So tell the intire truth, or in my eyes, dont say anything.

Yes i think it is a lie!! How can someone judge the information you give them if you only give them half a story? Just say a dog bit you because you were ill treating it. Would people judge the dog differently if you told them the reason why the dog? My guess is they would. So you see you have to tell the whole truth.

No. A lie is an untruth. Omission isn't lying but that doesn't make it a good thing. Some people feel very strongly about lying though, so rather than do it, will either avoid answering or omit parts of an answer. If they know the other person is going to get the wrong impression due to their omission, they are still in the wrong...

Not telling the truth is not a lie - it is witholding information and is not a crime. Sometimes it is necessary not to hurt someone. The issue is to consider what you would like someone to do if it was you on the other side - not getting the truth or all the information...

"Half a truth is often a great lie."

Author : unknown

What if your half truth can send
someone to go to jail and eventually to
execution and death ! Won't that be as
tragic as one telling a full lie ???

It is only a lie if you give false information in response to a direct question. If you omit information it is not an actual lie. But if you feel guilt in doing this could it then still be a sin?

NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is not a lie because in order for it to be a lie it has to be false. So if someone asks what were you doing on july 1 at 2:00 am you can just say I was at the movies, you don't have to say I was hiding in the movie theather because a three headed zombie moose was following me.
