You should respect the person, not necessarily the beliefs. That is of course as long as the person is not hurting anyone.

Thats a toughone dude.

I would question the basis for this belief. I would personally accept that people are that misguided but wouldn;t respect it, as I know that preaching homophobia is not the real message from the major religions.

I would accept not respect. But it also depends on the person. What defines the person is not just religious dogmatic belief, but who they are and how they are.

You should respect all beliefs as you have no way of proving that you are more right than anyone else.

Let them get on with it, they can live in fantasy if they want, its not my job to be thought police and tell them they are wrong (well I have in the past, and would still like to but...)

In respect, you should just respect it is there view, not necessarily respect their religion. That would be lying!

No. You should respect their right to have those beliefs, but you are under no obligation to respect their beliefs any more than you are obliged to respect the notion that 2+2=5.

Maybe it depends on whether or not your reasons for thinking so are worse than the beliefs in question. (?)

Sadly, it seems that respect between religious and non-religious people is a one-way street.

I'm not religious, but I respect others right to be, yet never has the same respect been shown to me from religious people for my right NOT to believe in a 'God', or at least conclude that there may, or may not be a God.

No - I am not arrogant nor self-righteous enough to assume I know for certain either way on that seemingly unanswerable question. Maybe I shall never know, nor others too.

As far as religious people are concerned, you are WRONG for not believing - end of conversation - end of listening to your reasoning - end of story - end of respect for you.

Fingers in ears and humming loudly comes to mind.

How sad - how sad.

respect doesn't have anything to to with your beliefs, you respect other people's beliefs because you respect them, it's just the matter of respecting each other. You may try to change your friend or whoever you want, but some things you just have to accept, in order to be accepted yourself, think about that!

I never asked you to respect my beliefs. Just look deeper into their true meaning, read between the lines, and listen. There's good reason in them, even if you don't accept them. Listen to my overwhelming proof that they are the only way.

No, do whatever you like. What makes you think anyone else cares if you respect their beliefs?

I don't.

no. if my religion says i should eat babies then why should you respect me or my religion. its perfectly ok to mock someones beliefs if they are not based on religion eg people who believe in loch ness monster, fairies etc but whoa betide anyone who mocks a stupid religous belief like adam and eve or noahs arc.
