Birds that flock have a roosting tree they sleep in at night. It could be up to 10 miles or more from where you normally see a few individual birds. Its usually a tall tree with lots of thick branches and small twig branches to hide them. Its usually in a secluded area.

Most of them go to their nests or just sit in trees out of reach of predators. Some are awake during the night - these are called nocturnal - and hunt, sing and do everything the other birds do during the day :-D

Some birds, like Owls and nighthawks, are noctural. The others sleep in nests, holes, or just sitting on remote branches.

I assume that they bed down in the trees, long grasses, or nests.

I am always curious as to where they go in a bad storm, though I have seen them around in the wind and the rain.

The go to their roost, this may be a tree or bush, or even on the ground or on water. They usually return to the same roost each night and may be alone, or in huge flocks.

Unless they are nocturnal such as owls they will find their favourite roost and tuck their head under their wing and sleep. When a bird roosts its feet lock so that it doesn't fall off its perch>
