I haven't installed a radio for at least 20 years. Is it better to let the pros do it nowadays or is it still possible for a klutzy do-it-yourselfer?

if you can under stand what to cut out of a mounting kit, and how to match up wire colors, you should be fine. make sure you know how to take your stock radio out too. sometimes that can be a real pain and is worth letting someone else do it. like on a cavalier where you have to take the whole dash out.

BEWARE: If you have keyless entry, it sometimes is connected through your radio for security reasons and may no longer work unless you get the right adapter. I've even seen a model of a car where the stock radio had to be put in the trunk with a 15 foot wire harness (PITA) for the electrical system to work properly.

If you order your stuff from crutchfield.com they will send you all the info you need. They also include the wiring harness so all you have to do is unplug the factory radio and plug in the new one. I only use crutchfield for my stereo needs. I refuse to pay those tech guys that money for a simple job.

yes and no, because if you have a late model car with those crazy shaped stereos you better let the pro's deal with it. but if you have a car with a DIN sided radio, it is fairly easy to install.
