We, USA, have catered to the Spanish speaking community WAY too much! You can't leave the house without EVERYTHING being in English AND Spanish! This is NOT right! If they want to come to the USA, then they should HAVE to learn the language! You can't make a phone call without the freakin' announcement of English or Spanish! There shouldn't be an option! ENGLISH ONLY!

What about the deaf? What about the blind? USA doesn't cater to them even half like we should. I have two small children and I've been teaching them Spanish, not that I want to, but if I want them to keep up with this ever growing nonsense then I have to teach it to them. I also want them to know what people around them are saying and not have it be said behind their backs. I've also been teaching them sign language because that is something worthwhile and useful!

No, if you mean to include private services like at a restaurant or bank. I should have the right to communicate with other individuals however I want.

If you mean government services....probably not. It would be a little more efficient to just conduct government business in English, but it would also make it more difficult for those who do not speak English to get the services they need. Even if you believe all Americans should speak English, it's going to take new Americans time to learn the language.

Suppose an immigrant came to this country legally, but his English was not very good, especially when he was under stress. He is trying to learn English as best he can, but he's older and learning a language is difficult. Suppose he needed police or fire assistance. He's under pressure, and the operator is having a hard time understanding him. Wouldn't it be better if there is someone who can speak his language, so he can quickly get the help he needs?

I think we don't have to learn the language, BUT if you need an interpreter take one or ask for one.
This is America, more jobs created.
To those who want english as the only language and are complaining about no jobs out there, here's a thought;
Learn another language other than english and get a new job!

I do. Unless of course you are a "Political Refugee" who was rushed into the country.
It is unbelievable the amount of money the government spends on literature printed in other languages. I think this is why they don't feel they need to learn the language. If I could go to Cabo San Lucas and receive benefits without learning proper spanish I would, but alas the Mexican government does not provide government assistance forms in english.

Plain and simple -- You come here, you learn the language. No ohter way around it. Many of my friends came here as legal immigrants, and every last one of them speaks fluent English.
If you can;t speak it, how do you expect others in this country to understand you, especially employers, waitresses, bank personel, or anyone else you do daily business with? Why should it become mandatory for American businesses to hire people fluent in so many other languages just because soemone refuses to learn the language of their new home country?

It does not concern me. it style of feels a small fee to pay to maintain from unnecessarily inconveniencing audio equipment of alternative languages. it is easier than the only determination which may be for agencies to have a separate telephone variety for each distinctive language. As English is the dominant language interior the US, i'm useful although that i could be slightly placed out if it have been "press 9 for English" after an prolonged checklist of alternative languages. I additionally agree that anybody residing interior the US could desire to finally learn how to talk and comprehend English. in spite of the shown fact that there'll continuously be milions of novices and others who nonetheless communicate purely their community languages. could desire to our nationalistic satisfaction bathroom down their could desire to habit their corporation? If petty concerns of satisfaction like this concern human beings this plenty, is it any ask your self that the international is often at conflict?

If you came to our country to work/live, it means you weren't happy or getting what you needed in the country you came from. I think it only stands to reason that if you're going to move somewhere, try and learn at least ENOUGH of the language to get by....I don't expect every immigrant to become a english professor, but at least get a basic handle on our 'lingua franca'
