Having lived in the Mediterranean for several years of live and always on tiled / hardwood floors I can say yes, absolutely. The floors trap no dirt and furthermore you can see anything that needs to be cleaned immediately.

If cost is an issue, they're getting better and better at nice looking linoleum. Take a look at this:

all the benefits of hardwood floors without the cost. We have some in our house.

Probably... they trap all sorts of allergens and I read an article somewhere about the chemicals and materials used to make carpet. If you just can't stand bare floors, area rugs are the way to go... much easier to clean... smaller ones can go in the washer depending on what they're made of and larger ones (again, check the label first) I vacuum them regularly and then haul them outside and hose them down periodically. More expensive ones like wool can be dry cleaned.

hard floors are always cleanest. carpet traps dirt, dust, bacteria, etc. which you spew into the air everytime you vacuum.

No carpeting is best for allergies.
