A soul is a part of God. This is how it was explained to me.

God is your dearest friend, your closest companion. Once God had an idea. God loved this idea the he had so much that she thought a part of herself to have enough individuality to see it’s self as separate, as a unit, as an individual as you. God did this so that he might have you to love and so that she might have you to love her.

Understand how special this makes each and every one of us to God. This is why God loves each and every one of us unconditionally. Unconditional means no conditions are necessary. No hoops that we need to jump through to keep God loving us. No silly ideas of judgment or punishment or hell just love.

This is what God means to me. This is perfect faith in god’s love for us. Anything else is halfhearted partial faith. You really need to decide if you really have faith in God, or if you just kind of have a little faith in God. The later is what most people have.

Your soul is the spiritual part of you that exists beyond the physical universe and the boundary of time.

People seem to see our soul as a "past" or "present" thing. But I believe that time was a filter that God placed over our physical existence to separate all the events in our lives.

This is virtually the same question as "If God created everything, then who created God?" These questions assume that something COULD have occured before creation. But time is NOT linear and infinite. It is a finite box, created by God, in which we live our physical lives. That box exists INSIDE the spiritual universe.

God said in the bible, " I am the beginning and the end". I believe that these were intended simultaneously, meaning I AM (present tense) the beginning and the end. I don't believe he meant "I was the beginning, and I will be the end.

Just as God is not tied to time, neither are our souls. They are spiritual, and time is a physical property. Your soul simply exists. There is no spiritual past, present, or future, so there is no "before we are born," in relation to your soul. Its like asking "how many miles between Thursday and Saturday".

You can't use time to measure your soul.

It's patently obvious to everyone that they didn't exist before they were born. Yet for some reason, they insist they will continue to exist after they die. The power of wishfull thinking should never be underestimated.

God has kept this information with Him. We can try to explain it with our understand which would be all conjecture.
