I prefer any dog who is in a shelter & needs a home. Mixed or purbred, they all need loving homes. And yes, shelters have purebreds too.

Mixed breeds do tend to be healthier.

I have purebreds. The great thing about purebreds is if you are looking for something particular in a dog. With a purebred you know what you are going to get. If a want a dog that doesn't bark, doesn't smell, doesn't shed, needs minimal excersice, etc...you can research purebreds and find a match for your lifestyle. Also, purebreds can be healthy if you go with a responsible breeder (not a pet store, on-line, or a newspaper ad). Also, rare purebreds tend to be very healthy because they haven't been overbred.

With a mixed breed...it's an adventure. :)

I'd say it just depends on your personality.

I prefer well bred purebreds. Mixed breed dogs can be healthier than puppy mills or BYBs but purebreds that come from quality genetic stock, especially dogs from competition-oriented lines are by far the healthiest around. Mixed breeds can be just as prone to genetic problems as purebreds - especially if their two parents were both purebred (see 'designer dogs'). As to being 'nicer' I have no idea how that can be determined. Every dog has its own personality and while certain temperment generalizations can be made based on breed 'niceness' is generally instilled by an owner and not genetics.

Purebreds are nice to have. But they're way to expensive, and some do have certain health problems. I have 2 muts and love 'em. But the next dog that I get is going to be a purebred. So I would say Mixed because most the time they are healthier. And they dont look like everyone elses dog.

Mixed vs Pure is a personal preferance. My best recomendation is to not spend more than $600 on a pure breed, and less on a mutt. Also, ask about health problems in the line. If they can't answer don't get the dogs. View both parents for temperment. Avoid petstores.

I have one of each, but both were rescued from shelters. My purbred dog does have a genetic abnormality, though, as many purebred dogs do (especially from nonprofessional breeders who don't do genetic tests). It doesn't really threaten his health, but he has what are known as Head Tremors. A lot of English Bulldogs also have this condition, as do pure bred dogs of some other breeds. Mixed breeds do tend to be healthier.

But I love them both, and they're both pretty awesome.

I love all dogs!! I had a purebred Belgian Shepherd while I was growing up. I had a mixed breed (part retriever and part collie). Then I had a Golden Retriever... and now I have a Goldendoodle puppy!

Depends on the animal, really. Mixed, purebreds, no preference really. The personality of the animal is what counts.

well a dog is a dog. I have one of each and love them both equallly. But my terrier mix is prone to less problems than my border collie. Most purebreeds have certain traits that generally occurs in different breeds of dogs. If you get a mutt they usually don't get the health issues that a purebreed would.
