I mean, I come on here and strong catholics or athiests are battling out their points of view to no eventual cause, I mean, can we sometimes keep our comments to ourself and not start a flame war?

Then there would be no need for a forum, would there? Kind of defeats the purpose of asking any questions, or answering them for that matter... Agreed some folks are a bit more enthusiastic than others, but even the jerks have the right to an opinion just like you and me. Stinks, but that is the price of freedom of speech.

Your desire not to have a "flame war" is good, and your advice about keeping one's comments to themselves when it involves comments that do not edify the reader are good too.

However, when you say "no eventual cause" you do not speak wisely. For how are we to know what use God's Holy Spirit might make of spirit directed posts to convert the unbeliever?

Psalms 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. 8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.

Also, you do not know who might be checking out these posts from the sidelines. Some curious seeker might see an interesting question and if they only see answers supporting one view point they might go away thinking "Well, I guess that's right. That's what everybody said". As it is written:

2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? 17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Considering most debates in this section are religion aren't technically religious debates, but ignorance at it's finest, I would say we haven't reached anywhere near the limit on religious debates, and there certainly is no limit to human ignorance.

What would be the fun of coming here just to discuss the things we agree about?

The battling points of view is what it's all about! But I agree that I'd rather see it stay civil.

I agree, but alas people must.

If you are atheist you don't believe in a god so let the people who believe in god just believe. And the strong religious people want to push their views onto the atheists. Remember the atheists don't care, there is no god for them.

So I say just let it all be. But makes me mad is the people who ask questions which are not questions but merely accusatory statements, and the same ones over and over. It is clear they are not interested in a proper answer... those people should shut it.

holy war may be a case if the forum really force the two religious groups to fight against each other or believing one religion is better than the other.

If this is a forum then there will be debate, if there is debate there has to be (2) sides. Sometimes it gets nasty and that isn't fair, but if you see a question that you know will offend you skip to another...

i agree, those people are so missing out on life. They each know that neither is going to let go of their beliefs because their lives would be destroyed as they would have no meaning or reason to live anymore
