I found a great article you should check out about Islam. Here is an exert:

Islam is democratic in spirit. Islam advocates the right to vote and educate yourself and pursue a profession. The Qur'an, on which Islamic law is based, enjoins Muslims to govern themselves by discussion and consensus. In mosques, there is no particular priestly hierarchy. With Islam, each individual is responsible for the condition of her or his own soul. Everyone stands equal before God. Americans, who mostly associate Islamic government with a handful of tyrants, may find this independent spirit surprising, supposing that Muslims are somehow predisposed to passive submission. Nothing could be further from the truth. The dictators reigning today in the Middle East are not the result of Islamic principles. They are more a result of global economics and the aftermath of European colonialism. Meanwhile, like everyone else, average Muslims the world over want a larger say in what goes on in the countries where they live. Those in America may actually succeed in it. In this way, America is closer in spirit to Islam than many Arab countries.

All religions are compatible with democracy as long as they are satisfied with just being religions.

If they want to get into politics and take over the government, then they become incompatible. Separation of church and state is one of the foundations of a working democracy.

Islam and democracy can never go hand in hand.

That is why when Bush started this thing with the middle east saying he was tryng to restore democracy there, I was so confused. I am still confused.

A relgion that does not give you freedom of choice or thinks that you should kill for GOD and do whatever else necessary to eliminate others who dont believe in your values, has no place with democracy.

One of the answers says "ALMOST ALL RELIGIONS" and I apprecaite that because it leaves room for those who are not in almost all.

There are people in this world who beleive in democracy. Freedom of speech, freedom of choice, etc.. and I appreciate that all are not included in the category of islam.

Islam is and will remain an undemocratic religion as they steal in the name of GOD, kill in the name of GOD, and live in the way they do in the name of GOD.

"I will keep my cake and I will eat yours by stealing, murder, rape, whatever means.": said by a muslim. (quote from somewhere)

Almost no religion is compatible with democracy because democracy is based upon one person, one vote, whereas religion is based on a hierarchical control structure leading up to a supreme being. You don't get to vote with god on what is good or not.

what's ur definition of democracy?

for any gov. there must be rules that people should obey. no country will have no rules or laws. and every country has differet laws and rules different from others. it makes no sense if some countries don't follow our rules (USA) then they are not democracy. there are those who respect their God laws before the law of men.

All followers of Allah have been commanded to kill everyone who is not of the that faith so they can go to heaven.

Would they rather have their Allah, who tells them to kill us in order to go to Heaven, or my Jesus who tells me to love them because I am going to Heaven and He wants them to be with me?

No, not compatible.
