Contact the admissions department of the school(s) you want to attend and ask them. They'll have the best answer for you because they know what they want and need to let you in to start studying.

Most careers in psychology require a minimum of a masters degree. You should contact your college's advisor and draw up a degree plan for the Psy degree. A bachelors in Psy is a foundation type degree, from there you can obtain a masters in Psy in Education to a school counselor or Psy in public to be a general public counselor. Depending on where you live, you will most likely have to take state exams in order to be a certified counselor. LPC are licensed professional counselors that deal with a variety of issues. there are additional certifications for Drug abuse counselors, family counselors etc. As far as being a Psychologist or Psychiatrist, both require a doctorate degree. Psychiatrist require a medical degree as they are able to give prescriptions. The higher the degree, the higher the pay, good luck.

I agree with the first answerer. Check with the college or university you want to attend and ask to speak to an Admission's Counselor. This person will help you "map" your way to your Psychology Degree- what courses are needed, etc.

You may also want to talk to professors and students in the Psych Dept. Ask them about your chosen field and what career options are open to you.

Another "place" to look is the Occupational Outlook Handbook. If you are still in high school, ask your guidance counselor if you
can look at it. You can also find a copy at your local public library.
This book has descriptions of various careers and fields of study. It also has a description of the occupation, what classes/education you need, salary expectations and how you can use your degree to meet your career goals.

Good luck.

I majored in Psychology myself. Are you just starting out as an undergraduate? If so, you don't need any specific qualifications for any particular major.

go to college and major in Psychology. Get really good grades, good reconmendations and some research/work experience. Then apply for a PhD program in the field you're interested in. Do good on the GRE too.

You can do a lot witha psychology degree; in that, you practice counseling or psychological services in many areas (schools, businesses). However, if you want to be able to prescribe people medicines if they have problems, you will have to go to school a few more years to study psychiatry.
