I am 23 years old, 5'2 and I weight 102 pounds. Everyone saids that I look good like that but, I wish to gain weight. I've tried everything to gain weight and it doesn't work. Everyone also tells me that once you hit 25 thats when your metabolism slows down. Is that true?

There is no exact science for it, some will say 25, others 30, but the fact is that it is different for each person. It is not how much you eat but how many calories you burn off. But know that forcing yourself to put on weight could have other problems, sometimes when you start to put on a lot of weight it is hard to stop. The best thing to do is to talk to a doctor about your metabolism and explain how much weight you would like to put on.

Get yourself on a good diet with plenty of fruit/veges, protein and carbs - if you eat only 3 meals a day then start adding a snack here and there. If you exercise a lot - then add more snacks.

Metabolism is supposed to decrease when folks get into their 30s, but this is statistically due to lifestyle changes. People become more sedentary and stay indoors as they grow older. Get people back out in the sunshine, and their metabolism speeds right back up.

Yep, that sounds pretty skinny. I can understand wanting a little more substance on the body since I spent periods in my life struggling not to be under weight (I've got some health problems).

If you really have "tried everything" to gain weight and yet can't gain it or can't keep it on, please talk to your doctor about it at your next appointment. She may be able to refer you to a dietician who can make sure you're eating right for your lifestyle. Your doctor can also help make sure your apparent inability to put on weight is not a sign of a health problem. Oh hey that's not a scare thing, but really, if you can't put on or keep on weight despite eating well (with enough calories for your lifestyle), I think it would be a good idea to ask your doctor to keep the weight issue in mind at your next physical at least.

Indeed some people can always be counted upon to say other people look good at or should be happy with unhealthily low weights. Here are a couple of things my co-workers said to me last year when I had lost a lot of weight quickly (BMI from 21.6 to 18.3):
"Can you give me whatever it is that you have?!"
"I have the opposite problem"
"It must be nice to have to buy smaller clothes all the time!"

All of those people knew my weight loss had been quick, uncontrollable, and due to illness. Sometimes I think even what is considered "normal" in terms of attitude about body, food, lifestyle and the combinations of those is in fact extremely pathological - a culture-wide eating disorder.

I suggest you continue to ignore people like that. They might mean well but they are putting their body, weight, and food issues on you. Talk to your doctor and let her help you stay healthy.

Actually it is more like the golden age of 30 for woman.. but sometimes with all the endocrine disorders, etc... it could be earlier.
