Hey there! Most states are different, but first you will need a Bachelors in Education, i'm getting mine in Early Childhood Education. Also, you will need to be state certified to teach in whichever state you want to teach in. Georgia has a test called PRAXIS I which i'm taking next Friday to become certified. I'm also going back to school for my 2nd bachelors for my ECE degree so I can teach elementary school. Good luck! =)

For preschool, some states will allow you to teach if you have an Associates Degree in Child Development. For kindergarten, you need to have a Batchelors Degree in Early Childhood Education. If you get into a private school situation, the requirements may be much more lax. Check with a guidance counselor at the local community college or what ever college you plan on attending.

Go to your states government website and find the education link.
I'm from Michigan...this is what you need.
Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with an Early Childhood Endorsement.
An Elementary Education degree will allow you to teach K-6 grade in a self contained classroom.
The Early Childhood Endorsement will allow you to teach anything PreK.
If you want to work at a daycare center and teach a preschool program there you would need an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood.

Hi!
If you want to teach PUBLIC preschool/kindergarten, you would need a BA degree in education (preferably early elementary) and you would need to pass your state's teaching exam. In NJ, for example, you can become certified in PK-3rd gr or K-5th. Each state will have its own policy on State Certification.
Private schools do not require an education degree/certification, as long as you have a BA degree.
Daycare/preschools usually only require CDA or some college credits.
Good luck-and check out your state's Dept. of Education main website!!

Varies by state...but you will need a bachelors degree no matter what. Most states will allow you to have an associates in early childhood to teach preschool...but if you want to teach in a public preschool or head start-you have to have a bachelors.
Not sure what it is for private schools...I'm sure you still have to have a teaching certificate (which to me is BS because it's a PRIVATE school...they should be able to hire whom they seem fit so long as the children are learning what they need to learn!)
You don't have to have a degree in anything to homeschool.

There are several different degree plan you could get depending on the state and the college which you attend. In my state, you need a BA or BS in Elementary ed with a Early Childhood endorsement. It is also strongly suggested that you get a reading specialization. There are some universities in the state that offer a PreK-4 degree.
You should search the web site on your state's Education Agency's web site. Or, call any college's education department and they will give you the most accurate information for your state.

To the person above me, yes you do need a degree to teach private, it doesn't matter if its not education, or the subject your teaching, but must have teaching licensure through the state, and bachelor's degree to TEACH!!!

For preschool, some states will enable you to teach in case you have an friends degree in toddler progression. For kindergarten, you may desire to have a Batchelors degree in Early youngsters training. in case you get right into a private college concern, the standards would be plenty greater lax. examine with a coaching counselor on the community community college or what ever college you intend on attending.
