Yes budgies are phenominal pet birds.
They are affectionate, gentle, and can even learn to talk.
the number one cause of death for captive budgies is malnutrition. You have to feed your budgie more than just seeds, and you say she eats fruit, thats GREAT, that will give her essential vitamins she needs, and a more enriched lifestyle. You should offer her grated carrots, diced cellary, cooked yams, cooked chicken, etc
make sure you spend at least 1hour a day holding and playing with her. and she spends another hour out of her cage supervised, and encourage everyone in your family to hold her.
Provide at least 6 toys, 2 for chewing, 2 for making noise, and 2 for snuggling. never give a mirror or a nest box, or anything shiny, or shaped like a nest.
NEVER EVER offer chocolate or avacado. It WILL KILL them. dont offer garlic or onions, as well as food intended for other pets.
feel free to email me for more questions at fatwhale90@yahoo.com I will be more than happy to help you with a question.
I wish you the best of luck taking care of your budgie and give her only the best.

I have two budgies. One is called Perry Winkle because he is a violet/blue and the other is Bonnie Blue 'cause she is aqua. They like apple, broccoli and carrots. I put a little bath in their cage and they stick their head in it...and fluff around...but can't seem to figure how to get their entire body in there, which is the point!
They are not tame (they fly away from me when I open the cage), so I never take them out. Their cage is by the window and they love to look out at the other birds. Budgies are very easy to care for, and especially like being with another budgie. Once Bonnie Blue got very sick, and I took her to the vet. I didn't think she would make it, but he gave her a shot and I put her in her own cage for a few days.....with a heat lamp at night. She's okay now.
Remember to clean their cage every day, give them fresh seed, water and fruits and vegetables. Parakeets are truly cute!

well l had a budgie when l was little... actually l had quite a few. They make decent pets, as long as you get them as ''hand fed'' if not then they can be mean and bite. Hand fed budguars are fed from birth and used to human contact, most of the ones you see in pet shops are NOT hand fed unless stated otherwise. they normally cost a bunch more as well.
They also arent the neatest pets... if you give your budgie a treat of mullet... it normally goes all over the place and around the cage neds to be swept everday because the seed casings not only from the food but from the mullet. Also, the little fish sticks, sol... l guess they like that-- well mine liked it.

Okay,I have owned 3 budgies. The best thing you can do for a budgie is gain it's trust and become it's flockmate.Start with a young keet and work with it for at least 30 minutes a day.DO NOT let it have mirrors or any kind of contact with any other birds. You want it to gravitate towards you and you only.Don't yell at it,don't hit it,don't spray it with water. If it makes you mad leave it alone.Cover up the cage for about an hour. They hate being alone.Another thing, keep it with you wherever you go.When I started training my keet I had it in a small cage that way I could take my keet with me everywhere in the house.Once they see that they are going to constantly be with you they'll eventually want to be with you all the time.Another thing, make sure that you put your hand in the cage at least 30 minutes a day to get it used to you.If it bites you don't pull your hand out.You have to make your keet understand that you are not going to hurt it.It took me about 5 months to tame my keet and now he's my best bud.He follows me all over the house and even takes baths with me. When you have a keet your main thing is to bond with it.Spend LOTS of time with it.Talk to it softly.Call it's name often. And most importantly LOVE IT.
As for food, fruits and veggies are great for it.Apples,plums,watermelon,oranges,grapes.Make sure that if the fruit has seeds of anykind in it that you pick them out because they may contain toxins that can kill your keet.No avocadoes, they'll kill your keet instantly. No chocolate,it'll do the same. No dairy products, keets are lactose intolerant and it'll wreck your keets digestive tract. No junk food,it's not good for them.No candy either. If you're not sure if something will hurt your keet don't give it to it,better safe than sorry.
Baths.Give it a samll container of water and let it do it's thing.Be prepared because your keet will make a mess when bathing. And watch out for drafts after they wash because it can make them sick, like a birdie cold. When you do let your keet out to fly turn off all ceiling fans, close all windows and doors, cover up all mirrors.Do what you would do wehn you have a 3 year old around the house because keets have the mind of 3 year olds.Hard to believe isn't it? Anyways, like I said LOVE your keet.If you have any questions feel free to email me.Good Luck.

Budgies are absolutely delightful birds! I've had three! All of mine were straight from the nest, once old enough of course! (a friend breeds them) Young ones are much easier to teach, and learn to talk much quicker and better!! When they are that young, you think you've got the colour of your choice, its not until their very first moult, you find them nothing like your bird started out! Our second one, started out as a grey colour,a while later,we had a bird with a yellow face and neck, and light blue body with royal blue tail!! (beautiful!)They are great fun! Enjoy your bird,I hope you are together for years to come!Good luck with your future!

I had a budgie for ten years, he was really smart, he could talk just like my mom, and even had her laugh copied perfectly, My Mom died in 1992 and the bird still carried on her voice, It was a joy to hear her voice even if it came from a bird

I used to have one and I taught her to "kiss". She was a great bird. I had her for almost 5 years before she died. But here in the States, we call them Parakeets. Good luck with your bird and keep up the good work.

Both are good for you, each fruit/vegetable has different vitamins. Thus as more variety, as better. Vegetables have generally less sugar than fruits.

Actually, we had a budgie when I was small. One day it escaped and flew itself to death against the wall.
That was pretty cool.
