Yes yes yes! Just got a book called Eats Shoots and Leaves by a British woman about this very subject. When I read misused words like there/their, your/you're or its/it's I shudder. Spell check won't catch these because they're spelled properly but used improperly. Were these people absent the full eight years of elementary school? And did someone say 'bizaar'??

These kids use computers at school, they have automatic spell check. Ask a teen to use a dictionary, they probably will not even know what one is and will not know how to use it. They are too dumb to click on the spell check at the right hand corner of they box they type in here. I guess it has to automatically do it for them.
I care and this drives me crazy.

I care, I can't stand to see all of the spelling errors on Yahoo Answers. It is sad that so many young people have problems writing papers because of their grammar issues. Our education system is so bad and it is only getting worse...

I have a bizaar obsession with spelling and grammar. I don't believe in all of these "abbreviations" that we are seeing more and more of.
I don't understand why I feel so strongly, but I do. I'm not old, and I'm not a prude, but I think that it is pure laziness for people to write and speak the way they do.

I entirely agree with you!
A friend of mine is a teacher at a middle school, she was telling me during school the kids would write papers in computer lingo, i.e. l8, for late and 2 for too. Proper grammar and spelling is important whether or not you have spell-check!

To an quantity I accept as true with you. so some distance as typing is going, yeah it is easier to shorten each thing. extraordinarily in texting. and that i frequently locate myself making spelling errors as quickly as I sort via fact I certainly have a tendency to sort too quickly now and back. it is not out of lack of understanding. using grammar on an identical time as conversing is the place i think of we've a concern. even nonetheless, it won't have the ability to be blamed on the colleges. My husband has very undesirable grammar, even nonetheless it is what he's discovered from his mothers and fathers. i choose to stress pencils by my ears as quickly as I pay attention him, or his mothers and fathers, say axed rather of requested, warsh rather of wash. the huge one nonetheless, is they're going to say supposably rather of supposedly...it drives me nuts!!! i understand i'm lacking particularly in grammar, yet come on!!

Yes! I am completely anal about spelling and grammar! It drives me nuts when grown adults can't speak or spell correctly. There's no excuse for it! (unless they have some kind of learning disability!)

I have taken advanced courses in English for as long as I can remember. I'm to the point of being OCD about certain things. LOL! I wonder if there's a rehab for people who are addicted to perfection? ;)

It's basic communication. But then I love reading and writing. I can't stand this dumbed down text speak that seems to be creeping its way into the dictionaries.
