We're in the middle of a Mediterranean heatwave, there are outdoor cafes springing up everywhere...are we becoming more like our European cousins in the way we kiss each other when we greet?

I don't kiss people, that is how diseases spread

Not really. I hate air kissing people - feels fake to me. Would much rather either a half hug or hand shake (though I know this is a bit more formal). I find it odd that kissing perfect strangers, i.e. people at work is now the norm!

I kiss most people on first greeting unless I think they're overly reserved, or it's innapropiate (e.g: not in the office). I think we are becoming more continental and I think it's a great thing.

It is getting there but slowly. I was brought up and to me that was the way it was. It is cultural and as Americans go we are slow to make change in our way of life, lets face we still use feet and yards while the rest of the world is metric. It will come around, it just takes time

No, I don't kiss people when I greet them. The female friends of mine get a hug, the blokes don't.

Speak for yourself, the English are more touchy-feely than the Scots, and I can't see us doing the kissing-both-cheeks thing like they do down south.

i hope not. i really dislike English people trying to act French when the guys won't kiss each other. it's soooo pretentious. I don't like physical contact with people i don't know and all those germs yuk!

i think so, americans before did not kiss when they would greet, but now a lot of them do. nost hispanics and europeans do that, but i guess it has spread t the american culture and others also.

we are, i think becoming more continental is a good thing, besides the kissing as i don't feel comfortable with it (unless it's a really fit bloke!!!).
