So you can have a frosted mug when you pour your beer in it?

I don't know about why you would freeze them upside down at home (except the stuff falling in thing) but in a restaurant it's for sanitation reasons. You don't want your bartender or server grabbing the frozen glasses by the rim do ya?

You don't want moisture to accumulate inside the bottom of the mug, so you flip it upside down and the moisture drains out.

It doesn't matter, but some folks might not want anything to fall into the mug.
