My son is 3 and is fully potty trained during the day but still wets the bed when he sleeps. How do we train him not to do this?

First, he's only three. Relax. Some children get the day and night thing all at once. Others take a lot longer for nights. Others get the nights right off but forget during the day. Don't let it be a stress issue for either of you.

Seriously, the best advice is diapers at night or, better yet, a plastic sheet over the mattress, and give him a couple more years to grow and mature. He's sleeping hard, like most busy little folk, and the urge to pee isn't going to wake him up.

I'm sure you are making certain he urinates before bedtime. You could try waking him up (you have to really wake him up for this to be helpful!) a few hours later and doing it again. I still recommend you wait, though. He's just a little fellow doing his best.

Make sure he goes potty before bedtime and don't let him drink for a while before he goes to bed either. If you have to, wake him up in the middle of the night and have him go potty again. Otherwise, keep him wearing diapers at night.

That's very normal at this age...even older. Night time dryness just takes longer. Sometimes the rest of them is growing so much faster than their bladder. Other times they are very deep sleepers. I'd suggest limiting fluids after dinner time, making him go pee right before bed and then having him continue to sleep in a pull up until he is ready for night time dryness. (My 7 yo son still struggles with this. It's very normal up until about age 9.)

You can wait until he is ready, then he'll do it by himself. You *can't* force a child to use a toilet, and you can't "train" him to be ready for something when he just isn't!!

A couple of things, though... Do *not* bring him to the bathroom in the middle of the night. It will rarely work, and you will be teaching him to do exactly what you *don't* want--pee in his sleep!! And don't bother with keeping him from drinking in the evening. Even someone who is eating or drinking *nothing* for 24 hours or more still has to pee!!

its normal. some kids wet the bed until they are 12 to 13 years old. everyones bodies are different. i would talk to the family doctor and see if it is because he dont have bladder control in his sleep and the doctor might be able to help to stop the bed wetting. it just all depends on your son too.

Try not to offer him any more drink before bedtime, encourage him to empty his bladder before going to bed, hope these might help. It is quite common for boys to wet bed til they are early teens. see a doctor,or nurse at your surgery,if you are really worried.
