Why do so many people lie, why can people not just be honest about who and what they about?

How pathetic...some people lie because they want to come across as something they ain't, they want to make themselves seem more interesting than they really are so they lie about their job, home life, holidays,where they live, how much money they have, where i believe people should be themselves, and be accepted for who they are and if they're not accepted then the other person has the problem, staying real to yourself is the most important thing, because you cant runaway from yourself, so it's best to keep it real.

I think one reason people lie is that everyone wants acceptance and fears rejection, that's human nature.

For some, lying is a means to an end. To get something they want they will say and do anything, even if it's not true or genuine.

I don't think it's black and white though, I'm sure it's a mixture of both fear of rejection and a means to an end.

Like this....."Dick was so afraid that another girl would turn him down, he wore a sock in his pants thinking that would do the trick."

P.S. Men who say they lie to keep from hurting a woman's feelings is full of $hit. They lie because they fear the repercussions from it. They don't want to look bad.

And I too think that honesty is important... Just remember that people who make up elaborate lies, are more than likely doing it because they feel they need to... I myself like to be honest and I am also attracted to honest and genuine people... There are still some of us out here.. I know if you look at my profile you will see a combination of silly Q&A's as well as serious ones.... I don't hide who I am or what I like or what I dislike...... lately, i was lied to... and when i confronted the person, he told me that the reason why he had lied to me is to protect me from knowing the truth! and that, my friend is a sack of lies! i don't need protection for sure, all i wanted was the person to be honest with me, to speak the truth. not only will it sets you free but you won't have to follow up with another lie.
so, if you ask me what I've learn from this episode, i would say people lie so that they can pretend to be someone else..and to be honest with ya, I've stayed away from all these great pretenders.

I agree with you and this is especially true on a board such as this. People see a chance to be someone that they are not and take full advantage of it. There are some very nice and very honest people that ask and answer questions. Just focus on them and ignore the rest.

yea, but sometimes people lie because they are caught in a whole web of lies, and if they tell the truth about something, it will let you know that something else they said was a lie....

It would seem that youa re talking about the internet talk....well, I never could figure that one out.....they must figure they are never going to meet the person they are chatting with.....too get their attention......I jsut don't know.....it si stupid, and they find out eventually, that the lie catches up to them...and they are rejected by the girl/boy, because of the lies.....

I hate it too there are so many people do it around where i live and it pisses me off. But I think they do it because they either want to make themselves look cool or sound cool or because they are trying to be somone thier not!
