People will still drive their SUVS, the speed limit here is 65, and SUVS just fly past me on the highway going about 80, so people really don't care, they are going to drive the way they normally do. Hey, it's their dime, it they want to waste it, so be it right? I am more frugal than that, 65 mph is ok by me plus I am saving money. Gas here is around $3.15 per gallon for regular, I have seen it at $3.33 for regular. I also don't believe you need a large vehicle to get around in, unless you have a large family where it is necessary, it is so wasteful and gas is not plentiful, we get it from 3rd world countries, we shouldn't be wasting what we have. I'm planning on downscaling to a smaller vehicle myself. I think more people should think about the long term consquences then about how fast they want to go on the roadways. I think more people will shop closer to home, in a closer radius because of the gas prices, but I think they will drive just for spite of how high the prices go. It makes people mad to see the prices at the pump, they make a certain salary per year, and get a tiny raise every now and then, but prices keep rising, their salaries don't always. It's tough just surviving, high gas prices, insurance for your car, it's a real money pit. Just be glad you don't live in California, I think it is $5.00 a gallon there.
