The main concern is that a babies inner ear isn't developed enough at birth for the change in pressure. You know that feeling you get when you fly or dive in deep water. Many adults chew gum or use a divers ear clearing method but a baby has a hard time adjusting to the pressure, which can be very painful. Older babies can be soothed and the pressure decreased with the use of a pacifier or by drinking a bottle. I sugges you speak with your doctor.

My mum flew an international flight with my 3 week old sister. However I don't just think it's the age but also the reason for the flight. I.E. If the flight is for medical reasons regarding the infant I think the airlines won't object.

Each airline is allowed to establish its own rules. I took my son on a plane when he was ten days old and no one asked us anything about him. If you are planning an international flight, I suggest getting a doctor's note of health permission as well as proper identification.

Your doctor would probably have a recomendation based on the baby's health, but the airlines don't care as long as you want to pay for the ticket.

I believe it is eight weeks. I went to live with my husband in Hawaii and I was not allowed to fly with my son until he was eight weeks old. I am sure there are extenuating circumstances for this too.
