Of course I don't believe most could disagree. I don't think I would have responded to a kidnapped soldier the way they did. However, if you do the crime you have to do the time, and Israel said this is the time for kidnapping one of our soldiers. I don't condone their retalliation, but I understand why they did what they did.
America is my home and it is the greatest country in the world. However, George Bush is a sad leader for any country and is just doing a piss-poor job. I'm ok with the war on terrorism, but Iraq should not have been a part of that war any more than N. Korea or Iran should have been. Americans are so quick to say Saddam was a bad person, but there are millions of bad people in the world, many worse than Saddam. We occupied their country for no good reason. At least they were trying to steal oil when they went into Kuwait in 92.

Israel has been the homeland of the Jewish people since Biblical times. Following the Holocaust, the land was officially designated as a Jewish state. It was a barren area with little going for it. The wandering Arabs who had lived there had done nothing to develop it in any way. There was no oil on the land and it appeared to be impossible to make it habitable.
The Jewish settlers set about to make the land productive. They brought in modern methods of irrrigation and built universities, cities and thriving businesses. When the Arabs saw this, they wanted the land back. Israel tried in every way possbile to accommodate their neighbors but nothing satisfied them. Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East and the only ally the US has in the region. They are surrounded on all sides by terrorists.
Israel gave up large tracts of land and bulldozed their own settlements to give the Palestinians their own country. However, this did not satisfy the terrorists. Time and time again they have sent suicide bombers and missiles to kill innocent civilians. Israel even built a wall to try to keep terrorists out, but the raids kept coming and they were on constant terror alert. Now Hamas and Hezbollah, two of the terrorists groups, have kidnapped Isaeli soldiers. Israel has had enough. They are now doing what the US should be doing - destroying the headquarters of the terrorists. These are the same terrorists that attacked us on 9-11 and have attacked Britain, India and other countries.

Everyone keeps saying the Palestinians are so terrible for wanting to get rid of the Israelis. If you'll remember, the original U.N. agreement set up a region for Israel to share with Palestine. In the 6 day war, Israel took over everything. And as to the Israelis being there since biblical times, who do you think the children of Israel took the land from back then, too? The Palestinians are descended from the Phillistines.
Also, we need to stop having such a knee-jerk reaction about Israel. We need to realize that what they suffered during the Holocaust does not give them the right to treat others the same way they were treated, especially when the people they're attacking had nothing to do with the Holocaust.

disagree. Israel has a right to defend itself. Period. The Israeli's have given in one too many times to multi national pressure. They pulled out of Gaza. They pulled out of Lebanon. When are the terrorists going to make a sacrifice and give up something?
Don't believe in terrorism? Are you one of those ignorant liberals who thinks it's about oil? We could solve America's oil crunch if we drilled in Anwar and the upper mid western states that have abundant shale oil. But, then you lib's cry about destroying a sensitive habitat of some worm. Can't have it both ways, like libs like it. Well, if the extremist Muslims win in the middle east, hold on to your hat , cause they will want to destroy us next.

The U.S. government operates on its own agendii, generally about manipulating who's in power in other countries in order to create 'favorable' conditions for U.S. interests and corporations.
They also have a highly complicated set of rational for supporting Israel, nominally around having a 'democratic' ally in the region. They don't actually care much about benefitting Israelis, btw.
There are some who say that violence has been increasing in the MidEast because of the instabilities caused by the U.S. led attacks on Afghanistan and Iraq. Israel finally took Hezbollah's bait and now we have this....
As for Americans taking the piss, trust me, they don't have the concept. It's just not part of their sense of humour.

The figures that die do speak for themselves. In Iraq, for example, prior to ousting Saddam Hussein a few hundred thousand people died each year at his hands. Now, as they fight for their freedom, a few thousand at most may die in terror attacks. The numbers pale in comparison to the numbers Hussein killed.
Hezbollah fired rockets into Israel and took Israeli soldiers hostage before Israel reacted.
200,000 displaced Israelis and hundreds injured is worth wiping out Hezbollah's ability to attack. Hezbollah aims at civilians, purposely kills them. Israel warns civilians of impending attacks aimed at terrorists, their weapons and the places the use to coordinate their attacks.
