First you have to remember that Israel has no obligations to help reporters.

Second, every military operation will try to limit what the enemy can find out. And keeping stuff out of the press is one of the basic methods of doing this.

Can you give your source? I haven't come across these reports so I can't say anything useful about this specific case and I haven't been able to google or yahoo anything up. BUT it is standard practice for warring governments to control news coverage, and for all of the usual reasons. Is there any reason to think that this is worse than normal?

I just finished reading Chris Ayres' _War Reporting for Cowards_, about his time imbedded with a marine unit during the invasion of Iraq. Politically, it's as unbiased as it's possible to get. One of his comments was that being imbedded essentially turned the journalists into soldiers. So even when we think we have it up close, it's still far from the whole picture.

It's called operational security. The less information you put out about your movements and plans, the less the enemy will know about it. The US used a twisted version of this for the first Gulf War. The US military had the press focused on the east, and that's all the enemy saw being broadcast. Therefore, they thought that's the direction we were coming from. However, they flanked the Iraq's to the west.

The same reason all the countries truly run the media, to only allow certain things out, especially in war time.....

would you show your hand to a gun fighter in a poker game? who would kill you if you won? Israel is not showing it's hand.
